  • Ghost chillies

Ok, so I've asked you lovely lot before what on earth to do with these, but I've come to the conclusion that I'm simply not man enough to try one. So I'm looking for volunteers, I have approximately 6 chillies on the plant and I'm looking for new homes for them. The compost seems completely inappropriate which was the OH's suggestion, I've asked all my neighbours and as soon as I compare it with a jalapeno for them they all say, ummmm..... no thanks.

So are there any peeps out there that fancy a try?

I'm good thanks. I watched some videos on youtube. Some are amusing, some are pretty grim.

Why don't you...buy a job lot of red peppers and use them with those 6 to make some of Nigella's Chilli jelly?

My only concern is its 1,000,000 roughly on the scoville scale, so I'd need about 2,000 red peppers to get it down to around a jalapeno level.

You have ripe ghost chillies already?!?!?!?

I have bengal naga growing (just as hot), and only have a few on each plant, and they are very green.

What are they for then? I'd even be worried about keeping them round the house as decorations although perhaps you could dry them, varnish them and hang them on the tree.

PS. I just don't have enough time to say hello to everyone as they join so please take this as a delighted to see you here!

Cautiously raises hand and says yes please.
But logistically, due to the usually catastrophic combination of La Poste and August, probably impossible.

Stick em in a curry! I Love ghost peppers and all things hot, hence my name!

I'd deffo gobble them up in a curry, chilli, sauce, whole etc lol. My Bhut's died as I was mean and forgot about them

If you have access to a dehydrator, dry them, and carefully grind them up - wear gloves, eye protection and a mask because powdered chilli is an irritant. I know this from lots of experience

The resulting chilli powder will be incredibly hot if used in large amounts, but a tiny pinch in a curry will give it a nice kick that won't overwhelm. I used to use it in much larger amounts but now I'm outvoted and have to make everything very mild (and they still complain it's too spicy!)

                        Hi Mikey,

I used about 20 naga's in some hot sauce I made last year but padded it out with a lot of other chillies and about 4 heads of garlic and it made a really nice warming hot pepper garlic sauce but in no way was it unbearable!

I have a good adaptable recipe for chilli sauce knocking about somewhere, ill post it up if your interested.

                        Cheers

If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
