£160 for approx 2 tons (2 big builders bags) of well rotted horse manure is this too much or is it about right?

I like the thought of "preloved manure"
        £160 sounds like a rip-off

We get it free from a local farmer and a mate of big mallys collects and delivers it for 30quid a load - I think bm counted 130+ wheel barrows worth to a load which is a lot of poo :-)

If it's well-rotted I wouldn't feel bad having to pay for it - it takes a year to rot down properly, and the seller has had to load it into the bags for transportation. Also, you have the carriage costs to consider - as with a lot of bulk purchases it's the carriage cost that's the killer. Try 'phone someone for a quote for 20 Tonnes of sand, then ask for it to be delivered...)

I was going to be a smart-arris and say "It's Freeeeeeee!" as I have a Horse, but when you consider what it costs to keep a Horse nowadays, I'd best shut my mouth!

The stables round the corner drops it off at the site for us free of charge - I think we do them a favour taking it off their hands, and in benefits the site too, of course.

I just had a trailer-full delivered for nothing. It's fresh though, and will have to be stacked to rot down. But, the bloke who brought it was clear that we were doing him a favour not the other way round; I think DEFRA regulations don't allow humungous muck heaps to just sit there any more, it has to be got rid of?

We get it delivered free now to our allotments from a local stables. I have had big wagonloads of well-rotted delivered to the allotment in the past and paid for it to be delivered (about £20) The farmer just tipped it on our plot in a big heap and we told all the neighbours to just help themselves. There was enough for at least half a dozen of us to use and store for the following year.

                        Manure costs

We pay £20 for one of those builders bulk bags, well rotted hourse manure with no bedding (all s**t) and that's delivered. It's a waste product and any value is in the transportation. Most stables are giving it away for free. Bus drivers have stopped me getting on their bus in the past with small bags, getting 8 bags delivered in one go saves all the hassle. So in answer to your question - your being ripped off.

I have never paid for hos muck... most horse owners and stables are happy for you collect it.
we have a friend with 2 ponies and I collect about 10 sacks every month, I provide the bags and they bag it up for me. Owt more than free is too expensive.
