I have to click on it to activate it, too. It has only ever bothered me if my mouse pointer was in the centre of the screen as I scrolled down. If the pointer was in the bare area either side, it didn't activate it.

AdBlock Plus is the best! The guy that developed it, has actually given up his day job, to concentrate on maintaining it. His family now survive on OUR voluntary donations!! I didn't send him a fortune, but I did consider it worth a few quid, and I had a lovely email of thanks back from him.

It is not ONLY adverts that slow down site/page loading, every digit typed uses bandwith & has to be loaded at every refresh for everybody. As an example see http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ml#post1159893 .. instead of quoting the whole post & adding "Thanks, that's really useful" it would be far better from a page loading point of view to have left out the quotebox & put ... Thanks Patchnija, that's really useful
That is a single example now multiply it up by the number of times it occurs every day & you will see how much bandwidth could possibly be saved by simply reducing the number of times quotes are used,if quotes are really necessary then bandwidth (hence site/page loading time) can be aided by reducing the quote to the salient point/s.

I guess you use firefox as the main browser then I is part of the program & it periodically checks for third party "plug-in" updates to help keep itself optimised,it looks at like Adobe Acrobat (.pdf reader),Shockwave Flash (video player) etc

No probs G4,it's one of those things that nobody thinks about myself included,I was only made aware when as a part owner of a (subscription free) 4x4 forum we had ever increasing amounts of server space to pay for each year, running a successful forum can get quite expensive,so in fairness to GYO I can see the need for an amount of advertising, but I do agree it should be subtle rather than "in your face"
