SWMBO went down the HRT route on the advice of her doctor. She had been suffering for sometime but that cleared up very quickly.

She was HRT for some years and when she came of the meds she had some symptoms but they were not as bad as original nor did they last more than a couple or three months.

Verified by SWMBO before posting, cause I only make a pigs ear of ladies things.

It took me about a year to "go through" the menopause (I've told you before that all these lady problems are prefixed by men) and that was about 15 years ago. I managed to do it without HRT and found loads of info about natural remedies and giving up certain foods. I remember my mum had to give up knitting because it brought on the flushes.

I had a full hysterectomy nearly 10 years ago, and didn't do the HRT thing because artificial hormones turned me back into a monster. I put up with the hot flushes and they went away pretty quickly, thankfully, but probably because I didn't have fluctuating hormones, just none at all

The dodgy thyroid made me get hot and cold at odd times, but that's mostly settled now I'm medicated for it.

I just ignored it and got on with my life. There were far more interesting things to do at that time.
My Doctor wasn't a great fan of HRT anyway, she believed that a healthy diet could solve most problems - and, since I don't take tablets unless I'm desperate - we agreed they weren't for me.
Looking back, I can't even remember much about it - guess I'm just one of the lucky ones

I think they're on commission for the coil. Urrghh. I feel sick thinking about it. No way.
They've also invented a horrendous alternative to the cauterising tubes .. Slipping in metal block things into your tubes: for which you are awake and drugged up. Nurse told me she didn't like the sound of that due to the painkillers they give you - she guesses it must be horrid.

Could hot flushes cancel out my reynards? :-)

I had a full hysterectomy as my symptoms suddenly got very bad! Which meant no gradually reducing hormones, which is what happens naturally - so straight away I was put on eostrogen only tablets until normal menopause age which solved all the problems as dosage was even every day - no waxing and waning levels.

When I gradually came off them 5 years later, I was symptom-free

G4 - If you're going to the doc's, ask about the difference between bioHRT (made mostly from soya) and synthetic HRT (made mostly from the urine of pregnant mares allegedly kept deliberately short of water so their urine is more concentrated)...

I have drunk a glass of soya every day almost, for about 20 years. Still get these horrid hot flushes though. Only thing that has calmed them is eating pears.

This is why I don't want HRT, even if it was possible for me to have it, as 3 years of flushes later, my doctor still doesn't believe me...as I am too young apparently to have them. Sigh.

Reading this thread has got me thinking. I've got a dodgy thyroid (over-active) but last blood test showed normal. My bloods show normal for everything. So why the h*ll does it feel like someone has a blow torch to my face, neck and chest (especially in bed). Like G4 I have steam coming out of my ears in bed, haven't slept under a quilt in ages. Consultant did suggest the menopause. So I guess I will need to wait and see.

I have had them for about 5 years now and I think??? (fingers, arms, toes and EVERYTHING crossed) they are lessening a bit now.
I don't take anything - not too keen and it isn't that bad for me, uncomfortable, but not impossible.
I wear minimal clothes when I can, keep my hair up and carry a fan around with me.

The worst thing about being "a woman of a certain age" is the fuzzy brain that goes along with it. I'm sure that during a particularly hot flush, my brain melted I can't remember anything, am totally stupid and can't really focus. Still, I'm not complaining (that much ) I know it is much worse for a lot of ladies.
