Sorry if I'm a little early! Thinking along the lines of thrifty homemade pressies, what does everyone think about spring bulbs (already ordered from T&M using club card vouchers), potted in pot from somewheres end of season sale using compost also from EOSS maybe some violas or something so as not to appear to give a pot of bare soil, wrapped lovingly in cellophane \ ribbons from eBay? Has anyone done this and how did you make it into a nice non-cheap looking gift?

I planted a pot for my sister in law last year. In a chance conversation she said she never got round to planting bulbs in the Autumn and always regretted it. Last Autumn I bought a nice big pot and layer planted it with several types. Then I made a card showing what was in the pot. Didn't attempt to wrap nicely but it was well received.

Most 'gifts' you buy here care covered in cellophane and ribbons . They look pretty but what a waste as most peeps just shove them straight in the bin! ( I wonder how long it takes cellophane to biodegrade?????)
I try to make rafia bows and a hand made label.
simple things like that show you have taken time and care about presenting it prettily!
...not a plant I know- but i found this piccie to show how a simple idea can look pretty....

Arrrrrgggghhhh!!!! The "C" word!!!!.
I made up hampers of home-made jam, pickles, biscuits and truffles for some of my friends and family last year. They went down a storm. Got some cheap wicker baskets from a local wholesaler and bedded everything in hay. - free from the local stable. Looked lovely! When the Devil gives you Cowpats - make Satanic Compost!
