I have 2 x 4 lamp fixtures in the lounge and used to have 4 x 42 watt halogens in each.

I bought 2 packs of 3, 1.4 watt LEDs for general lighting cost £9-98p per pack.

Then 2, 5 watt bulbs to point at where SWMBO and I sit for reading purposes, these are £9-98p each.

The 5 watt LEDs give the same light as a 42 watt halogen so even I can sit and read my books with no problem.

Two plus's each unit now consumes 9.2 watts instead of 168 watts and bulb life (yet to be proved by myself but I live in hope) is supposed to be 30,000hrs or 13 years at my level of usage.

I am sure this is the way to go but I take the predicted life with a pinch of salt, I bought 6 low energy bulbs last year for a small chadelier and they have all gone.

Regarding radiator foil, is the foil specicaly for radiators any better than normal house hold foil? does it go shiny side to the wall or to the rad?

            Bill,

The stuff I used was Heatkeeper Energy Saving Radiator Panels. Not cheap at £39-99p for 10 panels but that's enough to do 4-5 rads and they really work plus you don't have to take the rads off to fit them. Recommended by the Energy Saving Trust.

I suppose she can get away with it but you shouldn't tell the rest of us what she calls you.
