I've been out with my coat on today and it wasn't even raining so it must be turning cooler.

My heating kicked in too Potty. I spent 24 years in a house with no heating but the Aga in the kitchen and a wood burner in the living room, so it's lovely to have the luxury of heat that turns itself on, and yes, I love the house being at 20C, especially the bathroom, so there!

OH doesn't know this yet...but I'm going to put the heating on tomorrow evening for a couple of hours!

Yeh- I know...every year I plan not to put it on until the end of Sept....but it looks like this year will be another exception.

Mine would kick in, if it dropped below 15C, but I've turned that off now - so it'll only kick in if the house drops to 4C or something.

I'm too tight, I'd rather just put a jumper on. It's hard with a family though, but thankfully my kids are young and NEVER sit still, so they're always in their pants running around all hot and bothered. My wife on the other hand, it always cold!

                    Yes, me too.

In a couple of weeks I'll be wearing hat & gloves indoors, and sleeping in PJs with a lecky blanky & 2 hot water bottles

I do put jumpers on, and I can't afford to pay the heating bills, but it is simply a miserable existence being permanently cold

My 95 year old Mum lives with me, so I need to keep the house warm for her. We're double glazed and have so much insulation in the roof you can barely stand up straight, so once the temp reaches the thermostat setting, the heat goes off but the house stays warm for most of the day.

With MH on this one insulation is the key. I have cavity wall insulation, all windows and doors double glazed and fitted with seals. The roof space has 6inch of fibre glass topped with 50mm insulation board. Once the house is warmed through the heating will come on very occasionally for a few minutes to top up the heat.

Mix in a Band 'A' boiler, correctly sized radiators fitted with thermostatic valves and a fully programmable room thermostat with a learning capability and a very good reduction can be had on your fuel bills.

My only extravagance is the bathroom radiator which is 15% oversize, tis nice when you come out the shower though.

Lidl have got a fab heated cape/blanket in at the moment. £20. It's brilliant, the dog & I sit under that and don't need to turn the CH on (it's 3c outside) and 16c in the house

they also have a smaller heat pad for a tenner

                            The power struggle.

Every time i walk past our thermostat I turn it down, every time my wife walks past it she turns it up.
My economy suggestion of each of us having a light bulb which we carry from room to room was not well recieved.
My question to her was why do you turn the thermostat up, but leave our back kitchen door open all the time.
I was told wearing my fishing bobble hat in bed was a divorce issue. Likewise my thick Tirolean snow socks.
Why she trimmed all the hair off our dogs yesterday, just when they really need it is beyond me (and them).
I looked into the tumble drier yesterday to find one flannel and a pair of pants happily basking in kilowatts of energy.
She loves lights, little fairy lights strewn over the mantle piece (all year not just Christmas) more table lamps than you can find in lights are us. Lights left on everywhere, even the outside garden lights when we are inside, it takes me half an hour to turn them all off at night.
Such is the constant battle in the Harborne household, I accuse her of being wasteful, she accuses me of being Victor Meldrew (My favourite saying is "I don't believe it".
Yet we have been married for 42 years so maybe we compliment each other. jack Spratt and all that.

Bill if you have a lighting issue check out the new style LCD bulbs.

I have a through lounge and used to burn 400 watts an hour just to light it. Now burning less than 30 with very little difference in light value.

It's a common refrain: women really do feel the cold more than men do. I'm sat here in my clothes, with a fleecy dressing gown & my lecky blanket on, and my fingers are icicles still. Himself is sat in his vest & pants.

I don't waste lights and I wouldn't have a tumble dryer, nor leave windows & doors open if the heating is on: you might as well set light to fivers
