            • I'm looking for a bradawl............not even sure what it looks like but I think its like a corkscrew with a thin pointy bit that could be useful.
I'm trying to prise some broken off plastic peg thingys out of a wooden bedframe. The chaps yesterday suggested using 2 screwdrivers to prise them out - they didn't say how painful it is when the screwdriver rams itself into your hand Then I tried pliers and pinched my thumb in the process. Corkscrews don't work either.
I'm off to try a fistful of random useful looking tools next.........wish me luck and no major loss of blood
              Still raining here BTW.

              • I wouldn't bother VC, the best approach is to get a drill and drill them out.

                • There are non power tool versions VC with a crank handle.... As it's plastic you're trying to get out it should be a doddle

                  • Sometimes I replace kitchen hinges which have fallen off due to little ones swinging on the door. Rather than moving the hinge location leaving a big hole in the door, I drill the hole a little larger and pop wooden dowels in with a bit of mitre bond adhesive. This sets in about 20 seconds and means I can screw into the wooden dowel creating a fixing as strong as the original hinge receiver hole.

Not sure why you are trying to remove plastic dowels VC?

                    • They're the pegs that held the slats in the base of a bed - the ones in the centre of the bed have 2 pegs. The bed was moved from West Wales to here but in the dismantling, lots of the pegs broke off, leaving the peg in the frame. Unless I can remove every one of them, there's no point ordering more of the fittings and I'll have to think of Plan B.
The plastic is really hard, I've tried boring a hole in from the top and nothing is touching it. An electric drill would do it, I guess, but you know me and new fangled technology

I would offer to come and do it for you, but my vehicle is in being signwritten (vehicle wrap) so I'm off road all this week.

Option 2 would be to drill a hole through the plastic sleeve immediately above where the dowel is. Cut the dowel off the new holder and screw into the hard dowel, this should give you a good fixing.

                          • Aww thanks for the thought Mikey. As long as I know there's a way, I'll find someone to do it It just annoys me that these things aren't easily removable. I can't be the only who has had to move a bed. Whoever designed them should be shot

                            • VC,drill a small hole in the broken plastic dowel, wind a self tapping screw in & lever out with a claw hammer

How heavy handed were you in the removal process?

Plastic over time will harden and is prone to snapping, so I'm inclined to be say its not the designers fault exactly. goes and takes cover...
