  • Morning all....
yep, it's definitely that time of year...real Autumnal morning...

Started stripping some of my outside tomato plants last Saturday, so need to make something with them now....Passata I suppose (simple recipe anyone??)

Hey VC, are the cucamelons worth it ?? Mine never took off this year.. Or, are they more or less like eating mini cucucumbers that just happen to look like watermelons???

My tomatillos on the other hand are fruiting up now, so have to do something with them too...

I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

    • Fab piccies!

I was only thinking yesterday, how lovely the back lawn was looking, after finally getting a short cut. Today, it's covered in leaves and looks messy again!

      Coffee?

      • Hi Trip I don't think the cucamelons have earned their keep - I've been picking just a couple at a time and they're about the size of a thumbnail. So you pick and eat them straightaway - not worth bringing into the kitchen! Maybe others here have had more luck than me. I'll see if they overwinter but I don't think I'll grow new plants next year

        • Right - I'm off to the back garden to investigate some tubs...

          • Today I have a back garden full of birds - a big flock of goldfinches, most of them juveniles, and blue tits and starlings - and pigeons who have worked out that the others are messy feeders!
Cat is going cross eyed trying to keep track of them all.
Rosie is less interested - she likes the treats in my pocket instead. She keeps dropping baby teeth and I am the tooth fairy at the moment.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

                .
Trip I cut mine in half and pop them in the oven with some olive oil and garlic plus either thyme, oregano or basil, leave them for 30 mins then either sieve for passata or leave as they are to eat on toast.

                here's a link to some recipes :-

                • Nice to see you back on here Jeanie. Trip, I roast my tomatoes in the oven with chopped onion and garlic and a little olive oil then whizz them in the blender or food processor. Then into the freezer.

                    Three months to go...........
When I left work, I had a calendar on the desk and counted down the days - once you knock off weekends, leave and bank holidays its surprising how few work days there are. Then I went around annoying everyone singing "Only x days to go and I'll be free".
By the last week I was counting down the hours and minutes
Its very therapeutic.......... and incredibly annoying

If it was annoying you VC what was it doing to those around you.

Work is definitely overrated, they make you believe you enjoy the comradeship, nah its nicer being at home.
