  • It's a lovely morning here in Essex, such a contrast from yesterday.

I don't have much chance to enjoy it though, dentist this morning then off to the office.

One day soon I will be Bigmallly's gorilla, though.

Don't know exactly, the longer I leave it the bigger the pension. I'm 60 in a couple of months so Mrs H and I will do some serious planning (and arithmetic) this winter.

I know I shall miss some aspects of working when the day comes, although I definitely won't miss having to get up in the dark!

            • G'Mooooooooooornin' Peeps - bright an' sunny up this end of the County too, Martin. And cold. I put the hall storage rad. on last night and that's just about taken the chill off the middle of the buggalow.

All you can hear outside is the sound of Chainsaws.

Mr.G said all the work he and new neighbour did yesterday, clearing fallen trees and debris to keep the footpath clear, went without a word of thanks from anyone. Ignorant wotsits. No one came out with the offer of a cuppa or anything after the power came back on.

Bottom neigbour, with the fallen apple tree that has just ruined £100 worth of my leccy fence is still in hiding. C*w! Hope she's cold!

Kettle's hot - anyone for a virtual Cuppa?

              • I have always worked for myself, but since I reached 65 I seem to be working harder than ever. The big difference is the things I am doing are things I want to do. I have observed several advantages of getting older.

You can blame almost everything on failing memory.
If I drop something people kindly rush to pick it up for me! (I must look like I'm about to croak)
I can decide when I get out of bed (although it is usualy early but its my choice)
                Half price haircuts
                Pension
Regarding women, I am now elevated from pervert to dirty old man (far more respectable)
Free prescriptions (had that since I was 60)
Good excuse for not clearing snow.
My doctor has told me I have acute angina, I said so where the hell have my fiddly bits gone
I irritate my children with stories they have heard many many times before.
At my 65 birthday bash I actualy pinched a young womans ass, then pleaded total confusion, I told my wife it was such a lovely posterior that I was conviced it was hers (a double whammy)
                I can call policemen "Sonny"
I have no longer to keep business accounts (a very very big plus)
No need to follow current events because I have heard it all before.

                There are a few disadvantages.

                Everything aches
                Journeys planned by toilet availability
So many medical appointments I sometimes just hang round the hospital all day.
Debt collectors back off rapidly if i cluch my chest.
A certain warm pleasure in anticipating care home bed baths.
The embarrasment of having to get other people to chew my food.
(linked to the above) My constant ability to make inapropriate statements.

All in all I rather enjoy being older.

Go for it Martin - believe me, money isn't everything. Without wishing to be morbid, if my husband had kept working for a bigger pension he would have died in harness. As it was. we both retired as early as we could afford to and he enjoyed 10 years of doing whatever he wanted to do.

                    • Afternoon all....
Well, that weekend went by in a flash and it was a long weekend too, with yesterday being a Bank Holiday....Did get my garlic in during the breaks in the rain on Sunday.....Onions still to do...
Glad everyone survived the storms fairly intact....
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

                      • Afternoon All....Sunny but very chilly here.

Well, we've done it. The BH took his knob in both hands and turned it from the wee tap symbol to the tap & radiator combination symbol. The HEATING is ON. So why am I still freezing cold?

I've brought the five pumpkins in from the garage - much easier to carve at room temperature - and I've made two wreaths for Hallowe'en out of feather boas, lights and glow in the dark googly eyes. If'n it's raining tomorrow both will be gracing my hallway rather than my pathetic little porch. I'm trying to remember a) where the Halloween dec boxes are, and b) whether or not I had any paper cups (for candy) left from last year. If not a trip to town may be needed before Thursday evening.

                        Hot cocoa, anyone?
