  • Ruddy cold now - and very clear. A second storage radiator has been turned on. And a big chunky fleece has been added to my layers. The dogs don't seem to notice the cold.

I've just been to put my dinner in the oven, only to discover I'd only put it on the fan settling, and no heat. Why the chuff would you have a setting for fan but no heat...?

Had a few creamy pints of Guinness last night... which were badly needed after a trip to blaady IKEA...Mental

            • There must be a job waiting for someone who would stand in for an IKEA shopper, go and pick up all the necessary bits and queue for hours at the checkout with unwieldy trolleys. Then load all the bits that never quite fit into the car, deliver them, spend hours looking at cartoons trying to work out what goes where using only a puny allen key and put it in place before it falls apart.
              Hate the place too.

              • The way to deal with IKEA is to take a chum, allow yourself time to browse, then hit the food hall and feed ya face whilst pondering what you want/need. After that, take a leisurely wander back round filling your trolley. Natter together whilst in the checkout queue - it makes the time pass quicker, and gives you the chance to pop back and grab another picture frame/lamp/set of tealights/pot plant. Make it an event instead of a chore. Now, if only I could look at the supermarket shop the same way!

As for flat-pack - I've no idea how people manage to make it seem so difficult - it even has pictures ffs!

                • The only way to cope with a trip to Ikea, is to plan it, have some therapy in advance, and take a tranquilliser, following your trip, stop at the pub on way home!

                    • Chilly this evening here - I have finally relented and put the heating on when I got in from work. We have been holding out as long as possible.
I have never been to IKEA- it is something I think I should experience once in my lifetime. I don't actually like much of their stuff and find the TV ads quite creepy so I'm not sure why I think I need to go.

Yep you definitely need to go, you'll find all the things that you really need, but didn't realise till you went! Some of their bits and pieced are good, but it just takes so long!

                        • The only way to deal with Ikea is a) to get to know the shortcuts and b) tick everyone off by following the footsteps back to front ...and if its stuff from the warehouse go online first and write down all the stock numbers so you can go straight there .....

                            • It is hell, Rusty. I get lost in there. I know which bit I want - but end up going round and round in circles as it all looks the same - and they move departments around so that when you go back months later, its all changed again. The only good thing about it is the free coffee
