Dr Who for me too - both the recent Blink with the weeping angels (Carey Mulligan just brilliant!) and from the mid seventies a Tom Baker one with pulsating giant larvae. Will have to go and look that up....

Edit: tell a lie, it was Jon Pertwee and the episode was The Green Death

Oh Oh Oh.....The Weirdstone of Brisingamen. It freaked me out as a nine year old and again when I read it thirty years later. And there was another creepy kid's tv series about the stone circle at Avebury - can't remember what it was called.

And Tales of the Unexpected used to send me scurrying sometimes, although I loved the theme music.

You were really hiding deep behind the sofa, the Mysterons were Captain Scarlet not Stingray. Troy Tempest fought the sort of evil fish people.

'Protect and Survive', the nuclear war drama set around Sheffield. It was banned for years for being so disturbing. Everyone I knew was shell shocked for days after it was finally shown.

                You lucky youngsters.

Quatermass and the Pit was scary but by the time William Hartnell cracked off in Dr Who 1963 I was in the pub.

Same here Potty. Dr Who and Torchwood lose some of their scariness when you've walked in on the film set in the local woods

Oh yes...so it was! In mitigation, I must only have been about 5 or 6. I should remember really because I can still sing Aqua Marina. We used to sing it to my mother, who's much-loathed first name is Marina.

I remember The Changes as being extremely scary - all the electricity was baaaaaaaaad and everyone walked around avoiding pylons!

Quite envious of Hazel's personal library!

Books that freaked me out were 'Elidor', another Alan Garner, and 'Brother in the Land' by Robert Swindells, which was another post-nuclear war tale set in Yorkshire. We did it in English so there was no getting away from it. Still pretty horrific reading now.
