Sorry, I meant 'Threads'. 'Protect & Survive' was the public Information film narrated by Patrick Allen, advising us how to survive a nuclear attack on Britain. Chilling stuff, not least the fact that they saw the need to make the film at all. But the drama 'Threads' was just so desperately shocking and bleak, especially seeing it as a youngster.

Blimey, need to watch the snooker or something now!

For me it was the original Incredible Hulk series - I was about 6years old, and the part where his eyes change scared the life out of me ..... Yet every week I watched it!

I remember Brother in the land! We did it in English too. I wonder why, but, the bit where he has to run off somewhere and only had one shoe on haunted me! I always made sure I put both shoes on and then laced them up - just in case - still do!!! Also WORZEL-BLOODY-GUMMIDGE Scared the pants off me! I think it was because he was always getting into trouble and I knew it was going to happen and I couldn't bear him getting into trouble! Aunt Sally was too mean to him and he didn't fancy Saucy Nancy as much as he should have! - trauma at 8 years old this was for me!!
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

Another thing that freaked me out was The World at War. My father loved it. One evening they were watching it and my mother threw a headfit; she had just seen her own father on the screen. He died in El Alamein in October 1942. It upset her badly and my Dad thought she was being stupid. I used to watch it from behind a cushion and it was doubly scary because you knew it was all real.

When we were little (well, I was, siblings were much older) we used to watch a series at the USAF cinema which, I think, was made by Disney. They were wildlife documentaries. My parents thought we should go every Saturday morning with the American kids and watch them because they were educational. All I seem to remember was lots of animals killing other animals - not very nice when you're only four or five - so I cannot stand wildlife documentaries to this day after being made to watch that every week.

We used to go to the cinema on the RAF bases too - sometimes it showed the most fabulous stuff; we got to see Disney's Robin Hood before anyone else - but quite often the film would break or not turn up, and they always shoved on The Battle of Britain instead. For a roomful of kids. To this day I can still remember my older sister promising me that all the blood was fake, it was just ketchup and the men weren't really hurt. No cushions in there, either!

What when was this??? Ever since I can remember I've had an inexplicable phobia of pylons. It's taken me years to even half conquer it and even now can't walk under a high power line without the hairs on my neck standing up and have to look at the ground as I pass.

On one of those rare nights when my parents let me stay up late, literally half behind the sofa out of sight, they were watching Armchair Thriller. Thanks to google I can tell it was around 18–27 April 1978and I was 4 years old. And thanks to youtube I just relived one of my scariest memories, kept for over 35 years.

Here are the opening credits, scary enough ...

I'm another one who'd hide from Dr.Who - daft really, as it would've been far easier to just close my eyes at the scary bits. I do remember being a little scared by Quatermass and the Pit, too.

Now I'm all growed up, I think the only thing that actually freaks me out is the Weeping Angels.

Neither do I since seeing "Theatre of Blood" an old hammer horror that my brother unwisely let me watch when I was about 9. There's a scene where Arthur Lowe's character has his head cut off and put at the front door with the milk bottles for his wife to find.

I actually thought they'd chopped Captain Mainwairing's head off.

I had to sleep in my Mum's bed for about a week after that so she wasn't very impressed with my brother.
