So [sorry G4]...
so we have a community garden. Which me and my business partner [we have a training company that run from the gardens but 'rent' the space from the garden to ensure the garden has income]...we have spent hundreds of hours there working hard to transform it to a nice environment and teaching space, and we are not anywhere near halfway there. We have done this for no pay.
All the crops that were grown, were from my own personal seed stash.
We use the crops to feed our volunteers, and anyone coming onto the gardens, and if we sell any the money goes into petty cash to save up for community tools - heavy duty shredder etc.
We were contacted by someone wanting to do a 'community meal' event and wanting food donated from community gardens. We say that 'actually we have our own events that week [tomorrow and thursday] and ask us again on the friday and if we have any, we'll get back to you'.
It turns out that the event isn't being open to the community, but the wider network of the bloke who is arranging it. He works for Friends of the Earth. And most people going are what I would term 'professional back slappers'. The event is badged as a FOTE event.
Food from community gardens [correct me if I am wrong] should go to the people that grew it or helped on the garden, be offered to the local community for a reduced rate, and given to those on low incomes or the homeless. NOT used for feeding people who are waged and just happen to be one or two facebook friends away from the organiser.
The organiser as far as I am aware has never picked up a tool in his life, and that's all I'll say about him.
Am I being unreasonable to be infuriated that the food being eaten by this bunch was mainly donated by community gardens who were not aware who would be eating it?
