Dog Flaps

The main thing I'd be concerned about with some of the larger dog flaps is security - remember when I was a kid that our next door neighbours had one that we used to love to climb through for a laugh (it was the 70s, that's what kids did before computers ). We have always had cat flaps though so that our cats can get in and out during the day. Both of them come in at tea time (or often well before) and are then in the house (with access to a litter tray) until about 7ish the following morning.

Well personally I found one of those larger dog flaps right handy when I came back from europe to my cousins place. Trouble was all those carbs I'd eaten on the continent had gone right to me hips! The dog was inside and I went thru the dog flap head first, caught at the hips for a bit while the dog gave me a bath (which I may have in fact needed).

We've a catflap again, altho the cat comes in the flap he comes to me at night and asks to go out the window still, and then comes in the flap...bluddy animal!

Ah VC, they were blissfully unaware of how smelly I was since they were all at work! They probably would have hosed me off in the garden if they'd smelt me first! The dog was no where near as discerning
Nice Staffy he were, and very industrious.

Mikey I have exactly the same issue with my 6 month old Springer - she goes outside to pee and poo most of the time but I really don't want to leave the back door open for her in the depths of winter.
She has used the cat flap in the back door several times but she is a bit too big for it now!
I think I will get one that is microchip activated though, and micro chip both of them.
On the chewing side there aren't too many plants left in my garden and the borders are regularly being dug up! Indoors her preference is for antique furniture and the net curtains, with a side order of carpet.
Love her to bits though!
PS just looking at the ages of our dogs and the source (mine came through the rescue centre that VC recommended) did you get one of the four pups?

Mine came from our village, I knew my pups dad as he belongs to one of my allotment buddies and the mum was near the village school. He's actually got a five generation pedigree certificate not that it would have bothered me one iota if he hadn't. The lovely owners gave me him for free, as they could see he was going to a good home, they had wanted a couple of extra springers themselves as the five they had weren't enough!!! The mum had a litter of 5, they kept 2, we had one, their son had one, and a work colleague had the other.

He is completely adorable and unbelievably well behaved, he's fast asleep on the sofa at the moment where he spends most of his day given half a chance.

Danny is a wonderful dog, he is glued to me all the time, likes to sit on our bed and watch wildlife programs. He once saw a charging silverback gorrilla and he did a runner, he didnt go back into the bedroom for two days and then only after I had shown him under the bed and in the wardrobe. He's grown up now, the pic was of him when just a pup, he did grow into his ears you will be pleased to know.

I've never been a terrier person, but they're growing on me, as I've known several. Have to say Bill, he looks a little cracker!

Back to the original subject, and with no apologies but I'm in agreement with TS. My two are currently learning that, a: When it's colder, the door is closed, and b: I choose which side of the door they will be at any given time!

They can ask to go out, and I'd prefer it not to be anywhere between 23:00 and 07:00, but if it is, it is. I have to pee in the night, on occasions, so I quite understand. Other than that, I'm in charge, and they can like it or lump it!

Well I am totally proud of my Springer this evening as she is beginning to show everyone how a well behaved 6 month old is. When I got her I was used to a Springer cross dog but this one is a bit more complicated as well as very clever. Although she will never make Crufts, she is still adorable.
