  • Daylight Saving Time; Yes or No?

    Just a quick poll here;

    Would you prefer to stick to daylight saving time or get shot of it?

    Personally, I loathe it.

      There really doesn't seem to be much point to it these days. I believe it was originally introduced to save fuel for the war effort during WWI, by moving the clocks forward an hour to take advantage of early morning daylight, instead of using gaslight/candles/electricity (coal and oil).

      Benjamin Franklin, in 1784, published an essay titled “An Economical Project for Diminishing the Cost of Light” that proposed to economize the use of candles by rising earlier to make use of the morning sunlight. Well, we can all do that if we want, without changing the clocks.

        I'd prefer to stay on summertime, rather than put the clocks back.

        I'd like the available light in the evenings

            I prefer to stay on summertime,it has been argued out about this one not to long ago, alright for us,but would have a bad effect in some places, kids would have to go school in the dark, they the media had an argument for all,if i am correct,it was also argued about going onto continental time as well, then the powers that be said leave it as things have been, cannot win with every one,

              I'm another that prefers BST, but I'd not complain about GMT. I just can't see the point of changing it - it's daft.

                I don't care which one we stick with but stop shifting it about - winds me up every time.

                  I do appreciate the clocks going back but its not long enough in my humble opinion. At the moment I am walking the dog at both ends of the day in the dark. Its not fun. Change it too two hoursso that I can genuinely feel the difference rather than a month later the light has left it dark in the morning and early afternoon.

                  Be glad we don't live somewhere in perpetual darkness for months on end, I really wouldn't like that.

                    It has always seemed pointless to me too, something that has just been carried on because we're not very good at change.

                      I wish they wouldn't mess around with the clocks, catches me out every year. I got up at 8 am last Sunday morning to watch the Formula one, only to realise that it was 7 am.

                        Not enough options so I didnt vote.

                        Like others, I want to stay on summer time the whole year. I actually wouldn't complain if we moved to double summer time in the actual summer...

                          BST for me too. Really depressing this week with it dark so early although at least it gets lighter a bit earlier in the morning so it doesn't feel quite as much like I'm getting up in the middle of the night so guess you can't win.

                          Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

                          Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
