Ha yeah sorry I am seriously upset angry and very very let down

Two weeks ago after a meeting with my surgeon I had a long discussion and the outcome being a triple arthrodesis of my left ankle using bone from my hip!

Not a decision that was made lightly on Monday I received an outpatient appointment for my pre op assessment (13 dec) and a date of my op (jan 6)

After a phone call Merely 2 hours ago as I don't live in cardiff or the vale my local health board have refused to fund it leaving me feeling slightly cheated as I will have to go to a hospital a mere 10 miles away from the original one and start the process all over again due to money!

This will set my op back approx 2years and cost more by carrying out more test that I have already had done!

I am feeling a little depressed right now as it thought my problem would finally be fixed just to get kicked in the teeth

You posted elsewhere that you turned down a cancellation slot Darcy. Do you think that's why they don't want you now?

No that was a last minute cancellation from someone else it was just a routine call the surgeon and his staff are awesome been under them 3 years it's just the desk jockeys that are being idiots I don't understand why as it will end up costing them twice as much!

I kicked off on the phone and have to ring again in the morning to see developments from my complaint!

Hey VC your local so you will understand here I am being treated by a surgeon who serves Cardiff and the vale due to me being in the Army at St Athan he alternates between UHW and llandough I pretty much always get seen at llandough and that's where I had previous surgery now I live in the valleys I am supposed to use llantristant hospital!!

A matter of miles can set me back like this I only stayed around the valleys due to being under this surgeon getting somewhere if I knew this I would have gone back to Pembrokeshire or Yorkshire

Crazy, darcy. You must be about the same distance from all those hospitals.
I presume your surgeon doesn't work at Llantrisant. Can he do anything for you - since he knows your history and the urgency.

I don't really know I can only contact him through his secretary who had finished for the day when I tried to contact her earlier but I will be on the phone first thing tomorrow!

It's not just the fact of moving hospitals that's the easy bit but I respect my surgeon and trust him 100% since day one he has been nothing but truthful with me!

Does that make sense?

Of course it makes sense and that's why you should ask him to continue the work he has started.
Speak to his secretary tomorrow and explain the situation. She may know a way to sort something out.

Your problem is that you have served your country and paid your taxes. try moving to Eastern Europe changing your name to Darcyvuguavitch and then coming back. You will get it done straight away.

I have had a burning pain in the arch of one foot for months, I can hardly walk on it, my GP refered me to podiatry who took 2 months to send me an appointment, then cancelled it twice, i finaly got to see someone last week and she said "Hmmm Im not sure, I am only an assistant" So she rebooked me for some time in December. It occured to me that perhaps the cleaning lady might like to see it.

I'm no expert but I know in England veterans get priority Veterans' healthcare

Not sure about Wales buts you served in British army so why not? Check with your gp hope younger sorted quickly

The problem is budgets Darcy, as you fall under a different counties budget in the valleys than you do in Cardiff. I would imagine you are under Cwm Taff if they are recommending Llantrisant, while llandough is Cardiff and the vale. It all comes down to who will pay for the procedure, I can only assume they have recently discovered you are no longer based in St Athans?

Bureaucracy is a massive pain, you have my sympathies.

I know what your saying pal and your spot on!

I'm now starting to think about looking into moving to Cardiff and the vale just to keep my surgeon this problem has been underlying for 6 years but this is my third surgeon due to moving around I thought I was settled with the one I have now!

The thing that annoys/confuses me is that the lady I spoke to in Cwm Taff health board says that looking at what work needs to be done I will eventually be referred to Cardiff as the work is extensive and Cardiff orthopaedic department have more resources/knowledge so why not save time and money and allow me to carry on!
