Ever noticed how, if you ask for directions when visiting a hospital, they always direct you to a lift? I guess they don't know if you could be maybe unable for the stairs and they err on the side of caution.
It always amuses me, though, considering the number of admonitions from powers-that-be about keeping fit, moving and anti-obesity (which, here, usually advise stuff like, walk to the postbox or use the stairs instead of a lift).
Anyway, I usually ask them for the stairs instead.
