          so...where is he???
OK I've found him, top centre about a centimetre down there is a man with a hose pipe squirting water to the left. To the right of him and just below there are two people stood next to each other the left hand one has a white hat the right has a red hat, immediately above their heads you will find wally's head, only his head though.

              • And if you give me £20 pounds and tell me to put it in my pocket, I consider it a gift so don't expect any of it back again!

In a chip shop why is a gherkin called a Wally ?

                  • wally would be either,a pickled gherkin,a truncated Walter or an imaginary person to be found in various drawings in childrens picture books

                    • Right.
                      Scenario 1
You give me £15 pounds and ask if I'd like to gamble by making it £20 or £10.
                      Gamble.
                      Scenaroi 2
You give me £20 and ask me if I'd like to gamble to keep it or lose a fiver.
                      No gamble.
In scenario 1 I can win or lose, whereas in scenario 2 I can only lose.
I am obviously not a gambler.
I'd love to know why you posted this, fascinating.

                      • The reason for the post Rocketron is that our mind plays tricks with us, this is an example of where our fast mind takes our when really our slow mind should be in control.

The options create the same outcome but we perceive them differently, we hate the thought of losing more than the thought of winning. So in option 1 most people choose to keep the £15 rather than gamble for £20, this is reversed in option 2 as the fear of losing the £20 means that a greater number gamble to keep it rather than stick with the £15.

This sensation has been with us a very long time and has been tested with monkeys. They taught the monkey to hand over a coin to receive a reward of grapes 1 coin 1 grape, they then offered the monkey a reward where he handed over a coin expecting a grape and got 2, happy monkey. They then showed the monkey 3 grapes and when he handed over the coin they took a grape out only giving him 2. They repeated this test, then gave the monkey the option of giving the coin to either the person that gave him an extra grape free or the person who took one off him, even though the outcome was the same 2 grapes, the monkey always chose the person who gave him one extra proving that we prefer to win rather than lose.

This is a bias built into our makeup and one we cannot change, some believe this bias had some influence on the numerous market crashes we have had, they are now looking at ways that the markets could be adapted to avoid our numerous biases affecting our perception and letting our quick decision making process take over from our slower more stable thoughts.

                              • Ok so this morning out on my walk, I was nibbling away on some hawthorn leaves just trying different trees to determine which ones would produce the best fruit.

It was quite an eye opener, they ranged from sweet juicy almost golden delicious apple skin flavours right through to raw cooking apple, pickling vinegar undertones.

I know that the hawthorn is part of the apple family, but I'd always thought that man had manipulated the taste of apples to suit our palates, but have we actually just tweaked natural occuring variations in the fruit to produce flavours we prefer?
