Hose pipe into bath or WC won't work I can see from your pic's the rad is to low.

It may well be that you have turn the lock shield off anyway it could well be open just an eight of a turn. Don't use to much force trying to turn it off (thinking loppers here) you could well shear the spindle and that would mean a drain down and new valve.

At the moment even if the washer in the drain cock has gone its a very simple job for a plumber, both valve off, whip out the centre of the drain cock fit new washer, screw back in and turn on the radiator.

Just don't want you to make it worse and end up paying more.

Is it still leaking after you tightened it back up?

Thanks Potty. I'm going to leave it alone now - just in case .
Ar the back of my mind I have this awful memory of going to car maintenance classes and being shown how to top up a battery and thinking that I understood..........I had to have the acid siphoned out of the battery and the battery well which was under the back seat of the mini - and it stank of rotten eggs for months.

I couldn't really get a screwdriver in as the stubby one wasn't long enough, the tiddly ones didn't have a big enough head, and the bigger ones were too long to get up and under. All I achieved was a wet hand

I have a plasterer who I use called
                Kevin. :/)

I lol'd at your post bill - almost choked on the Guinness I'm having after a *long* day at work.

I had the same vavles VC, wouldn't blooming drain and leaked just the same. Whenni eventually worked the insert shaft thingymajig (sorry pots- no idea what the insert dodah is called) free said water did drain... Rather fast

Just glad I was replacing the carpet!

The washer near the top of it had perished. Then was stuck up there - right PITA to get out.

I've left it to Kevin to fix. He can't miss the radiator with the bowl under it and it should all be done by the time I'm back there
