Daughter bought me a 'Gardeners world' mug the other year but I don't like using it in case it breaks, silly really because she got it me to use.

Ordinary size mug for first cup of coffee, only one I have with milk, served in bed, then move onto black coffee, from posh coffee maker, (Nespresso), just little cups, specially bought for Expresso coffee. Fruit tea only in china mug. Bit fussy aren't ILast edited by Dorothy rouse; 22-11-2013, 09:49 PM.DottyR

I prefer china mugs, and have a favourite. Mine all have birds on, and the one I use has a barn owl on one side and a long eared owl on the other. I dropped and shattered it last year, and bought exactly the same mug to replace it.
I like straight sides and a base wide enough so it's easy to get your hand in to clean, and it's not so easy to knock over on surfaces that are not quite level (I tend to use my mug to hold open the book I'm reading when I eat breakfast)

I bought a mug for the DD, Chr*****s before last - it had a barn owl on one side and a kestrel on the other. She used to keep both, so I was really pleased to find that one.Jules

I like my mugs to have a big handle, so you can get a good grip. Have two favourites at the moment, a NYPD mug I got in New York and a mug from the garden museum with an old advert for Skelton tools on it.
I have a coulple of thermos type mugs with lids down the alotment. Keeps the flies and stuff out and keeps it hot for longer as I tend to forget it when working but much prefer a proper mug.

My current ones are three the same my sister bought me for christmas last year.
They're bigger than the average mug, flat bottomed, flare out gradually to the top and are fine bone china....I really really hate thick mugs....[cue a VC joke....]

And this is Freya...we called her 'Meep' because of the noises she made at the DD
