  • Old shower door

I have definitely 'caught the bug' from fellow Grapes, my neighbour has just moved out, and has cleared his garage (after13years) and deposited a heavy shower door by the bins, so I've gone and picked it up and it's now in my garage, was thinking might be able to make a cold frame? It's not damaged, is strong, and quite heavy

    Is this an idea?

Yes! funnily enough I was going to do that but found a double glazed window instead, Is yours hinged in a frame? that might make life easier. Be warned they are heavy as i expect you have already found out.

Yes, in a frame, don't know about hinges tho, will need to have a look, is heavy, quite nice really, same as in my shower now.

Bet the neighbours wondered what on earth I was doing, staggering with it across the road! Obviously it's quite a good size. Husband is out today, so will see what his reaction is, otherwise may be requesting one of you chaps make a visit down South !

Was hoping neighbour might donates one of his lovely large earthen wear type pots to me, but he didn't

If its in a frame I guess it has hinges, if so the jobs half done will make a superb cold frame.

I used a bit of corrugated perspex tied onto an old tin bath for a makeshift cold frame so anythings possible.

A few years ago I used an old window (still have it) propped up at each corner by bricks with a planted up trough underneath - was far better than any bought cold frame I have ever had since.

Methinks it is time to get it back out again!

One of Lottie neighbours has a bath on her plot, it's still got its gold taps, and fancy feet, rhubarb likes it!

IF you decide it's to heavy, would it be possible to use it outside as a water feature, set the panel up either straight or a slope, then, with the aid of the usual water pump thingies, some rock and colored lights, let the water run down from the top,

Nice idea, I thought for a minute you meant we cud have an outside shower! Sadly no appropriate outside space, will see what clever idea husband comes up with, might be too heavy I suppose, will need some supports.

Where theres a will,a way will spring forth,am sure other peeps would have ideas on that one

turn it on the side so is horizontal, have 2 or 3 see though pipes, with a different color light in each on the back,so the water will flow over the front, thus making the lights appear to twinkle

I have a couple of side frames off a shower on my plot. I use them as windbreaks and and plot edge deliniation. Had calabrese growing in a narrow bed with shower edges and wire over the top to keep the pigeons off.

Instead of a cold frame, since you have the door frame, could it be opened out into a ^ shape and turned into a one sided cloche? Put polythene or netting across the open sides.

Thank you all, just had to explain to hubby what a cold frame was, so nothing too technical !
