Thank you Feral, I was begining to feel some of the comments were directed at me, the pup was purchased by her partner before they met so even she didn't have much choice in the matter. Neither had they any idea that a baby was likely, she had been trying for years to concieve with her previous partner, had one miscarrige and been told the problem was her not her partner. So when she concieved almost imeadiately with her new bloke I think perhaps the previous one was firing blanks.

I have been there today actualy and he is a most wonderful dog, crazy but endearing. He has eaten through a larch lap fence which was easy enough but he shifted 10 concrete blocks to reach it. I have been given the task of making it dog proof. He has an indoor cage which he seems to like, it has approximately 2 inch mesh and yet he managed to eat the plaster wall that it was up against through the mesh. Her boyfriend seems to be well aware of the need to exercise him so we just hope time will change his mad urges.

LOL HH, he sounds like my bluddy wombat! Maybe some genetic testing first?

Seems we're all animal lovers here as well as plant lovers, so bound to be worried re the dog. Hopefully between you, the daughter and the sil, you will end up with a lovely dog, and a lovely grandkid (with out fur.)
