      Hi Darcy,

I'm not sure exactly what happened as I suspect stuff got deleted off. But I wasn't offended by you asking for a close. If things get out of hand it's nice to know someone will put their head up and say stop.

I don't see anything offensive in the thread now from anyone.

I see 18 different forums on this site. This one is titled "General Chitchat".
        I don't really see zazen's point.

Some folks do tend to bump their gums about the subjects being discussed on this website from time to time. My own view is that the whole set up is intended to be of interest and amusement and most of us approach it with that in mind. Yes sometimes sad events take place and because of the personalities involved and their histories, it can lead to a bit of differences of opinions but the whole idea of forums is to exchange ideas isn't it? We don't need to exchange views solely on the subject of gardening and we don't need to agree with one another all the time. If we did, I for one would never be out of the GR cos it would be soooooh boring.

I've just done a straw poll of the first page of 'new posts' and 8 are gardening related whilst 18 are not.

Other gardening forums are thankfully available.

You see 18 different 'boards' on this one 'forum'.

If you click 'what's new?' you will get a list of different 'threads'. These are the current threads since last logging in.

A random poll by counting all the non gardening threads at the time of typing versus the gardening ones; on the first page of 'what's new' totalled 8 related to gardening and 18 completely not related.

              Does that explain it better?

If the Forum bosses didnt want general chit chat then they would not have created it. It keeps the non garden items out of the gardening threads does it not. I think a forum that excludes little bits of fun or items of general interest would be very boring, particularly at this time of the year. There is only so much to talk about in winter related to gardening "Picked a leek and got wet" just about covers it.

Being a fairly new grape I did think the forum had changed lately. Then I suddenly realised there's not much gardening to discuss in winter, so roll on spring lol

This is NOT the gardening section of the forum. It's the general chitchat section!!!

All you who know me will know that I'm not a great poster - don't have a lot to say. But this forum is precious to me and I do appreciate the mods who work so hard for us.

Just be tolerant of other people and allow peeps to have their say once in a while without always thinking that you have to add your little bit.

And to throw your toys out of the pram is childish. So there!

                        JMHO.
