  • Mistletoe & Holly

    No not a song....

Who gathers their own at this time of year?

I've ear marked some holly, but the mistletoe is proving elusive.

I decided that I might try and make my own door wreath this year, I have a false one but its not the same. If you do make your own what do you put in it?

No to mistletoe but I keep meaning to rub some berries into my old apple trees (could be a money spinner )
Sometimes pick holly from the garden........this year maybe
Wreaths - not arty enough but here's someone who is - http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ath_76262.html

I hadn't planned on incorporating fat balls, I quite like my door step.

Tons of mistletoe here, let me know if you need any - postage might be a bit steep though

Lots of mistletoe here too. No holly - I planted some in a mixed hedge three years ago and it is now nearly as tall as my ankle so not quite ready for harvesting!

Shedloads of mistletoe hereabouts - in all the apple trees. I'm trying to think where there's some very close to me - would it survive the bashing in the post? Although I'm a bit thing about climbing the trees - I'm not very good at it.

Thank you kindly for the offer, though I wouldn't trouble you to post some. I'm sure there'll be some out there I simply need to keep my eyes peeled and have a bag ready.

I don't mind climbing trees, I say climbing I mean stretching. Anymore than 2 metres off the ground in a tree and I freeze.

Just what I did, rubbed berries on our apple trees. Got three large 'clumps' of mistletoe now. Going to hang sprigs on peoples knockers Christmas eve again at dead of night.

                  Cheers, Tony.

I’ve not found and Mistletoe here either but I’ve had a go at making a wreath for the first time this year

I used ‘whippy’ willow stems plated together to make a round-ish hoop.
No idea if it will be ok but I found some moss growing in a shady spot in the garden which I’ve used instead of sphagnum moss to cover the willow hoop, it’s held in place by green Twisty Tie. My greenery is a mixture of Tree Ivy, Eucalyptus, Holly, Bay and a little Pittosporum. With a few sparkly pine cones and a few red flowers from an old candle decoration I took apart. It looks ok, although a little big and not quite round! I really like the berries and seed heads on the Holly, Ivy, Eucalyptus and Bay.

Skimmia might do too and I’d have used Christmas tree branch trimmings if I’d had any to hand
