  • Woodburning stove

I'm thinking of getting a woodburning stove for my project house so have been doing a bit of research.

Came across this little ditty which I think is quite good.
    Logs to Burn,

    Logs to burn,Logs to burn,
Logs to save the coal a turn,
Here's a word to make you wise,
When you hear the woodman's cries.
    Never heed his usual tale,
That he has good logs for sale,
But read these lines and really learn,
The proper kind of logs to burn.
Oak logs will warm you well,
    If they're old and dry.
Larch logs of pine will smell,
    But the sparks will fly.
    Beech logs for Christmas time,
    Yew logs heat well.
"Scotch" logs it is a crime,
    For anyone to sell.
Birch logs will burn too fast,
    Chestnut scarce at all.
Hawthorn logs are good to last,
If you cut them in the fall.
Holly logs will burn like wax,
    You should burn them green,
    Elm logs like smouldering flax,
    No flame to be seen.
    Pear logs and apple logs,
    They will scent your room,
    Cherry logs across the dogs,
    Smell like flowers in bloom
But ash logs, all smooth and grey,
    Burn them green or old;
Buy up all that come your way,
They're worth their weight in gold.

Sorry if someone has already posted it before in the past, but I don't think so?

PS Must find me an Ash log supplier!

    Lovely!
There are a few poems like that around- each one fun to read !

What sort of stove are you thinking of snadge?
One thing we were determined to buy was one with an airwash system- where there is a flow of air over the glass window, helping to prevent it blackening up!

Air wash doors a good with bottom & top vents the very best

      Favourite log poem ......

Beech wood fires burn bright and clear,

If the logs are kept a year.

      Oaken logs burn steadily,

If the wood is old and dry.

But ash dry or ash green,

Makes a fire fit for a queen.

Logs of birch wood burn too fast,

There’s a fire that will not last!

Chestnut’s only good , they say,

If for long it’s laid away.

But ash new or ash old

Is fit for a queen with a crown of gold!

      Poplar makes a bitter smoke,

Fills your eyes and makes you choke!

It is by the Irish said,

      Hawthorn bakes the sweetest bread.

But ash green or ash brown

Is fit for a queen with a golden crown.

Elm wood burns like churchyard mould,

Even the very flames are cold.

Apple logs will fill your room,

      With an incense -like perfume.

But ash wet or ash dry

For a queen to warm her slippers by!

We felled an old dead oak tree on the farm and an old guy who used to do odd jobs for us said it would be poor for burning because it had died by lightening strike .Me being ever sceptical didn't believe him. But I have to say it turned out to be pretty poor considering it was old dry oak.

Bought a new Wood Burner this year, and Invicta, with the airwash system which is superb. The only thing is that when the fire is shut down to burn slowly the glass does blacken but once it is burning fast most of the black burns off. Really delighted with it, throws out so much heat that we have to keep opening the back door to let the heat out, but then it has not been really cold yet!

myself and I believe VC has the same one - A Stovax stockton 5.

It has 5kw output, and I love it.

My parents also bought me one of those 'stove fans' for it for xmas, that is also awesome!

                I can highly recommend both!!!!

But the fire does create dust on the mantlepiece and surrounding areas.

Not the same as VC and chilli grower- it's a reva freestanding F76

                    9.5 kw...should be warm enough!!!

We had wanted to get an Invecta similar to roitelets but the red one we really wanted needed a 180mm hole at the top of the chimney and we only have 155cm!...so this one is black ( boo hoo) but quite a modern style!
