I'd indicate right when joining at the T junction, and keep my right-hand indicator on until I was on the straight part of the road, after the hairpin bend.

If I had to stop at the first give way I would then start to indicate, otherwise not. Then indicate for lane changes only, otherwise not. Then depends on the exit junction.

I would...indicate when joining the road, when there is a sign to say traffic both ways, and there are obvious signs to say which way traffic flows-there is a sign to say one way traffic. Beyond that, when changing lane. Was advised, that you indicate for the courtesy of others in telling them where you are going-should they be near you.

Of course- a typical French driver would just pull out expecting to get in, then beep their horn several times to make space and then drive up the backside of the driver in front...before undertaking

I believe Bearded Bloke is technically correct, but personally I'd leave my right hand indicator on all the way round the right hand bend. This is not open to misinterpretation the way that turning the indicator off might be to the dummies out there who don't know the rules: nobody will mistake my intentions for anything other than what they are.

I like to be helpful even if the purists laugh and point.

That's what I recently did but my wife (who was in the passenger seat) promptly said she would have indicated on the approach and again on the hairpin.

Then it seemed as if everyone we asked had a slightly different opinion........

My wife is a more experienced driver because I prefer to cycle if the distance is only a few miles.
However, I am a very experienced cyclist who has cycled as many miles as many drivers have driven (exceeding 10000 miles per year in my prime), and if cycling around the Mitcham's Corner I would have indicated both times in the same way my wife would have done in her car.

I am very,very pleased to read that the reason for this thread is because of a friendly discussion rather than an accident as I at first thought it would be.
As a cyclist FB you would probably be applying near the same logic as a motorcyclist who learned to ride back in the dark ages on machines which were not fitted with indicators,whereby a hand signal can be made on "over-run" or when stationary,but given that the accelerator is on the right hand side of the handle bars it would be unsafe to attempt a sustained right hand arm signal around that hairpin bend.
