Oh, yes Verinda - I can sympathise with this!
However to develop a habit, for the first month you may need a specific goal - like put your keys in one place for a month or find a spot to to keep the important papers- that may work!Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

This reminds me of the learning cycle we used to refer to when training.
The key is to move from:-
Unconscious incompetence --> conscious incompetence --> conscious competence --> unconscious competence.
