My garden looks awful…winter time I suppose…it echos my mood lately. I was doing fine before xmas. Had some trouble with my left shoulder and was going to physio for that, after 14 weeks on the waiting list.

5th Dec I had a fall on my right side, pretty bad too, I had a chest xray to make sure the old lungs were ok, which they were thankfully. Unfortunatly the pain in my ribs and chest generally prevented me doing my excersises. The left side has got so much worse there is a possibility I may need surgery to put it right after all this time.

So I am feeling a little low and fed up right now. Thankfully the birds keep coming to the feeders and lift me a little. My little lovlies.

It is so gloomy this time of year. I have got myself a 'sad' light for the dark days and go for a walk with the dog on the dry days - it all helps a bit. I am waiting for physio on my left knee and right elbow. So it is coffee, painkillers and the dog fetches her lead for me

Star you're bound to be feeling low with your fall so you're not able to do what you usually do plus like Jeanie says its a gloomy time of year.

It's horrible to be layed up by bits if us that won't work properly!! Start sorting the seed box , put plans to paper for what u would like to achieve in your garden . I'm sure little things like that will make you feel that you 're working towards a wonderful garden this year.

I can only echo the others. Everyone's garden looks terrible at this time of year - and these storms don't help. This morning my fruit trees are full of plastic bags and rubbish from a wheelie bin that got picked up and emptied by the wind. It's too windy to safely remove any of it, so I just have to sit and look at it

Lots of Grapes have injuries, medical conditions and other huge challenges to work with/recover/move on from. You couldn't possibly be in a better place for support

Aside from medical issues nagging at people (colds, flu, stomach upsets, trips, slips and falls), the time of year doesn't help people's mood.
The amount of daylight and sunshine make a big difference. This time of year there's neither much daylight nor much sunshine - but at least the day length is now in the increase again.

In extreme cases, feeling down in winter is known as "seasonal affective disorder", although most of us feel a post-Christmas slump in our mood (and apparently January-February sees quite a high relationship break-up rate due to the knock-on effects of horrible weather and post-Christmas money troubles):

A friend of mine uses - and gets great relief from - a special bedside lamp which comes on around 4-5am at a very low light level and progressively gets brighter over the next couple of hours to simulate how the bedroom would get brighter as the sun comes up in summer.

Hi there from another crock Not being able to garden since October has left my place looking a right old mess, too.
I've been cheering myself up by organising my seeds and planning for the spring in the absolute belief that I will be well enough to garden again by then.

Will it cheer you up to hear that it's too hot here to do much, and dry as a chip so nothing seems to be going well here at all. And my back is not good at all.

I do understand how the dark days can make you feel down. Just that atm I'm feeling overwhelmed by the opposites.

Is there a happy medium somewhere?
