  • Assorted ramblings...

    Hiya folks,

It has been absolutely ages since I had the time to get online and post.

Belated happy new year to all, hopefully it has been a great start to 2014 for everyone.

I sat last night and went a wee bit mental on Real Seeds, spending around 30 odd quid, so thought I better get back into the swing of things.

Going to try German Mountain Spinach this year. Has anyone else had a go with this?

I also ordered some Greek Gigantes, yellow mangetout, trail of tears beans, and am going for a French variety of leek which states it is extremely winter hardy. That's the experimental stuff...

Things also appear to be moving on slightly in terms of having some local allotments too. We got an encouraging email from the local community councillor who is organising things, saying Aberdeenshire Council had appointed a new guy in charge of allotments, and were now actively looking at sites in the area, even going as far as naming some!

Anyway, I am back, and looking forward to the growing season ahead

Welcome back OITC, I'm only just back myself and more than ready to get stuck in this year I haven't had a look on Real Seeds this year yet, they are usually my first port of call. I'm hoping that between my seed tin and the VSP that I won't have much to buy this year.

Good luck with the allotment search

      Thanks Ananke.

One thing I kind of forgot to ask in my OP...

A friend runs her school allotment and was given a huge number of freebie raspberry / loganberry canes by a ploy neighbour. She has asked if I want any of the leftover ones after she has following planting as many as she needs. Question: if I were to plant these up in tubs for now and we do actually get a lotty later in the year, would it be ok to transplant these again in the same growing season? I am going to take them with a view to using them as a lotty hedge...

Hello there all, just thought I'd pop by.

OITC just came out with total randomness by saying "Parsnips fork". I was confused till he explained and realised he was having a mooch on here. Been too long so I am away for a catch up.
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
