  • Morning all! Lovely sunshine here. Mum's birthday today, so I'm going to pick her up after lunch to go to a garden centre, then brother & partner picking us both up at 5.30 to go out for a meal.

I have a rice pudding in the oven - used a heap of left over cream in it. Then I've got my pinny on to do some cooking for the week, and am doing a chicken dish. Second line of instructions are 'add 5fl oz of double cream...'

Rats - I only made the rice pudding to use the cream up. If I nip out to get cream from Aldi, they only do it in 10fl oz tubs, so I'm going to have a load of left over cream...

Hazel do you have any natural yoghurt ? if you have I'd use that instead of the cream I do that with butter pheasant when I make it.

        • You can freeze double cream if you whip it first ( like you do to make ice-cream.)
Wish folk in my house liked rice pudding, I have to eat the whole thing myself!
          It's a hard life.

I would have done if I had have had any in the fridge. As you mention it, I have a pheasant in the freezer, and butter pheasant sounds lovely - can you point me in the direction of a recipe?

Funny you should mention ice cream, Raybon, I made strawberry ice cream yesterday ... because I had a LOT of cream to use up. The cream that I didn't use in the ice cream, I used in the rice pudding, thus leaving me short for the chicken recipe. Which is why I have had to go out and buy MORE cream just now.

This does not show my housekeeping skills off to their best effect!

                      • So there I was having a period of quite contemplation while planting out squash & courgettes, when I was rudely interupted by the sound of jet engines looked up & saw the Red Arrows coming straight at my veg patch (well the 4 in the middle lne of the formation) at only a few hundred feet of the ground

                        • Hubby has come home, put the telly on, and gone out to mow the lawn. Why the telly is on, is beyond me, but as I'm doing his books, I'm not going to rock the boat. Especially as he's mowing with the collector on, which will keep the mowings out of the house.
