  • Well that's work out of the way...time to go over the plot...once I have devoured a slice or two of home made quiche.

Mainly weeding duties today and watering, seen plenty of the liquid sunshine on my travels but very little at home.

            • Afternoon
I've not been in the garden yet. Had to wait for my parcels to arrive. Didn't turn up till this afternoon so I could of gone in the garden after all! But apart from that it is now raining, only light. Hope it cools the warm air down and give my veggies a good watering

              • This dog is so clever sneaky. When she wants to play with something forbidden, she takes her toy along as a pretext. Just found her ball in the wash basket and she has a pair of socks over the other side of the room.

                • Soon as I went out to water my veg inside the greenhouse, the rain decided to come down fast. So was wet through by the time I got back into the house. :/ Still not made the weather cooler. Just my luck now I am back inside it's stopped raining.

Oh well, might as well have a drink

                  • Well, picked 8 v large courgettes! Still got fridge full from last time I was at plot! Really must remember not to plant so many next year, none of my yellow ones germinated this year!

Made courgette and tomato chutney on Sunday, and a courgette and ricotta lasagne, ( was v good)! It really is a courgette and bean year for me. Courgettes and beans with everything!

My neighbour will be getting a present later! ( courgettes and beans)

                    • Wish I lived closer Dotty - I have zero squashes this year and zero beans.

Dog and I have just visited the plot(s) to discover all my spuds and strawbs have been strimmed by the council - all quinces gone for some reason (one left on the tree but half snapped off) and no gooseberries or blackcurrants or rasps left. Still, I have 3 apple trees loaded with fruit and they left the asparagus alone - so all is not lost.

                      • The Council? Why? That's ridiculous !

Yes, I definitely have courgettes to spare! Have grown squashes for the first time this year, and they rambled out of our allotment site! Not sure what to do with them yet.

Well I guess I'd better go cook some! At least they keep for a few days in the fridge.

                        • I think the council get people in on community service payback and use them to keep on top of the unkempt plots. Mine was looking a bit overgrown admittedly but they don't know one end of a strawberry plant from the other so it is all a bit indiscriminate.

Never mind, it has helped me out in one way if not another

                            WHAT?????

Oh good grief- I bet they strimmed the wrong plot???...how utterly, mindlessly stupid

I hope you are going to send them a bill for your loss of crops and destroyed trees/bushes etc Jeanie???

Don't let them get away with that.

I presume they have done other plots too???

                            • They are supposed to give you warnings aren't they??

Oh Jeanie- I would be heart broken.

You sound so much calmer than I feel at the moment ( on your behalf)..I actually feel sick and outraged for you.

                              • The plot on one side of me is un-lettable as it is mostly in shade from a huge ash tree so they let that one go wild with nettles and comfrey - so that side was strimmed, sadly the butterflies that were hatching on the nettles may have missed out this year. On the other side of me is a plotholder who spent months in hospital last year so his plot has gone wild again, but he has a frame full of runner beans and some beds with onions and parsnips.

This is the second year this has happened to me - not so much damage as last year though. I am philosophical because I know I was not keeping it up to standard, and was beginning to struggle in the hot weather. My strimmer is a bit too ladylike to chop up the nettle stems so they have done me a bit of a favour - along with some losses which I am sure other plotholders will help me out with (I will put up a note asking for any strawb runners going free to a good home )

At least the council didn't send me a letter telling me I have a month to sort it out. That would have been tricky for me as I have a busy month coming up.
