Afternoon, hope you're all ok. I love this holiday lark - I'm so relaxed I'm horizontal. Have baked bread, made jam, picked courgettes, made 6lbs of pastry and used some for jam and lemon tarts, plus a few mince pies. I'm keeping the garden tidy and the house as well. If someone would pay my wages, I'd stay at home full time! It's bright and sunny here, but the wind is very strong. Bit of retail therapy for an hour or so now. BTW, I've taken delivery of some slug killer that you water in. I've never used it before, but looking at it, it looks as though it's just a liquid form of blue smarties. Anyone used it?

I'm sure freezing most pastry is fine... I seem to remember a programme on TV where they did a pastry topping just by grating frozen pastry straight from the freezer over the top of the pie. Never tried myself, mind! The proof of the growing is in the eating.

Afternoon peeps,Nicos,i have froze any pastry raw,it is fine,am sure the rough puff benefits from it,the main thing is,to wrap poritons individual, let it thaw a bit first,my trick is to flatten it out to approx 1 inch, that aids both the thawing out,and the storing.sigpicAnother nutter ,wife, mother, nan and nanan, love my growing places, seed collection and sharing, also one of these

My courgette chutney was a winner, as was my rhubarb and my odd shaped vegetable. . Second for my beetroot cake, and 3rd for my lettuce. Missed out on the 'collection' (although I was really pleased with it - pic below), french beans, runners, peas, courgettes, heaviest potato, white and red potatoes, and fruit cake (big sis Helen won a first for hers!).
A couple of pics of the displays below, and one of the prize giving.

Yes Nicos, I've always made 3lbs of pastry at a time, split into half pounds, wrap in cling and freeze. I take it out the night before and defrost it in the fridge. I used to get it to the crumble stage and then jar it - that's handy for crumble, just add the sugar/oats/crushed cornflakes or whatever you use. It's also nice with crushed cheese and onion crisps mixed in for a savoury topping. Wind is still gale force here with a spattering of rainGranny on the Game in Sheffield
