Really lovely cake G4, save us a piece next time please Can't believe the weather. It's been lashing it down and blowing a gale all day until five minutes ago. Now the sky is unbelievably blue, we have sunshine and the wind has dropped.
Poor Jules, passes vinegar and brown paper, there there.
It's been shocking all day AP, to the point where I wondered whether I would be wading through floods again (never again really, I'd have spent the night here, I learned my lesson last time). I'm truly amazed at how quickly it stopped, dropped and shone!
Nice looking cake G4 and just wondering will this be a regular thing now ...
I went to put the cake 'together' this morning, only to discover I had no strawberry jam! I had to pack everything carefully, call in at the shop, and 'build' the cake when I got to the Stables. I managed to get two slices, but it disappeared very quickly, with even one of the very high will-powered dieters having a slice. It was difficult to cut, as I'd put too much cream in and it oozed out as it was sliced.
Mr.G was disappointed not to get any (he doesn't eat cake - a bit like Jules' Hubby not liking Key Lime Pie ), and suggested that I make another! That's my "Domestic Godessness" worn out for this year.
Bren, we are warm & dry (just got the utility bill email dual fuel nearly £700... ) You have to go up three steps to get into our house, so the inch of water that's sitting has a long way to go yet. I just wish it would stop - even snow would be better.
G4, can't believe you ate all of that caaaaaaaaaake in 24 hours.....
I'm just going to have the last piece of key lime pie and some cawfee.

Afternoon all - it's rained all morning, but forecast to stop soon, then the winds will pick up. I'm trying to plan a run when I don't get (a) wet or (b) blown across the park. What are the chances of success?
Call me a lightweight but the rain and gales coincided at lunchtime so I have not been out. It's blue 'n' white 'n' windy now, but dry - so it looks like a run round the roads after work instead. I'm going to put the washing out for an hour - double pegs all round, I think!
... G4, can't believe you ate all of that caaaaaaaaaake in 24 hours...
I didn't! I made it for the 'Gang' at the Stables. One of the other Liveries makes the nicest cakes, and brings them in for us; Fruit cakes, sponge cakes, chocolate brownies to die for, and she's been too busy lately, so they've resorted to shop-bought offerings. Very inferior. Anyway, we'd been talking the other day, and I mentioned my (late) Nan's Victoria Sandwich with fresh cream, and we all started drooling...
It was Mary Berry's 'bung-it-all-in-together' recipe. I will be making another.
Bored of marking. Tail of end of one batch nearly done. Then have another batch to do. Trying to get it done so I can do some knitting later.
Scary weather out there. makes the Cov ring road even scarier. More thinking of Aunty binley. I got lost on the ring road on Monday- it does happen-and in my head was that map of hers. Thank juniper that that she said get off at junction 3! Kept going around til I got there you just had to be there. Have to negotiate junction 9 on Saturday; going to see some Shakespeare at the theatre. If I get through the week!
Survived the school run with 4 very wet and windswept small children. By "run" I mean walk as I don't have a car. Thankfully the school is only 10 minutes walk from my home, but by the time we got back we were all wet through.
The wind is picking up here. Just been out to try and "windproof" what I can, moving trees into the shelter of walls, and weighting down and jamming lighter items into confined spaces. There's assorted scraping and clattering noises coming from neighbours gardens from stuff being chucked about. It's now going to be a case of sit down with a cuppa and let whatever happens, happen, and deal with it later.
Good luck to all who's got it worse (particularly the West coast)
I went out, later than planned, to shut the Chickens in, must've been around half five, and it was bitter. It's blowing up from the South still, but so cold - almost too cold for snow. I don't actually mind if it snows, it's easier to deal with than rain, in my opinion, but I really do feel for those in the high-risk areas. Fingers crossed for you all.
It's cold indoors, tonight, so Mr.G has the fire roaring, and the bath will be made good use of later.
I still have ice in my G&T though...
