          • Its the Uppydowny Chook, specially bred for its ability to fire eggs upwards, but you have to be ready with the eggcup to catch them. There may be some flaw in its breeding here but they're very entertaining to watch - when you don't have TV

                • Lol Binley - as a child I never remember getting head lice - but was amazed to see them on kids' heads when I was teaching - locally they called them 'jubs'!

And for those who are wondering, 'jubs' is a Romany word!

                    • We had the Nit Nurse who would come around the school and rummage through your hair. Not sure whether she was looking for nits or brains - she never found either on me

                            • I remember having nits when I was 14. I was devastated and so ashamed. The Nit Nurse gave me a card to give to my parents and although I took it home, I didn't say anything. I folded it into a tiny square and hid it in a very small Toby Jug my mum kept in the china cabinet. I washed my (long) hair every day for the next week and rinsed it in vinegar and prayed every night that they would go away. When the Nit Nurse came the following week I remember shaking while she went through my hair and the relief I felt when she said "All clean, your mum has done a very good job". I showed my mum the card when I was about 24. At least there's not so much of a stigma attached to lice nowadays - all the GGs have been infested at some stage in infants and junior school. It seems to not be as rife in senior schools. Anyway, after that bit of a revelation see you later!
