Dotty,
I had a similar experience when I went to Prestwick's 65 club many years ago hoping to find out about the history of Prestwick - no one greeted me on arrival - I sat down listened and watched a rather uninspiring talk on a mixmax of history matters and left with hardly a word exchanged - I never went back.
Later when I joined the FHS I found again there was no one to greet you at the entance to the hall so when I joined the Committee I suggested that we should have someone to greet everyone, especially new members or visitors and we have done so ever since - I recently went even further and suggested that new members should be given a mentor for at least a couple of visits so they have someone to talk to and answer any questions they have - this seems to have worked quite well as new members are not left alone whilst listening to whatever talk is being given.
