    Dotty,

I had a similar experience when I went to Prestwick's 65 club many years ago hoping to find out about the history of Prestwick - no one greeted me on arrival - I sat down listened and watched a rather uninspiring talk on a mixmax of history matters and left with hardly a word exchanged - I never went back.

Later when I joined the FHS I found again there was no one to greet you at the entance to the hall so when I joined the Committee I suggested that we should have someone to greet everyone, especially new members or visitors and we have done so ever since - I recently went even further and suggested that new members should be given a mentor for at least a couple of visits so they have someone to talk to and answer any questions they have - this seems to have worked quite well as new members are not left alone whilst listening to whatever talk is being given.

    • Evening all, had potato pains, from the digging of the trenches and sinking on spuds; only to be rained on.

Now fancy lounging around and doing some more for the magic square project.

      • Just popped in to say goodnight. After my last post carrying the laundry basket downstairs I missed the last 4 Nothing broken or sprained, but I did give my shoulders and arms a bit of a jolt so I expect to be a bit stiff in the morning. Don't know what came over me, fancy falling down at my age! Have a good evening and see you tomorrow

Excellent idea Shen, apparently is supposed to happen here.idid contact the before going along as I'm not from Kent, ancestors are Lancashire/Cheshire, but thought might be useful, and be able to advise on the 'practical ' side. The talk next month us on Workhouses which interests me so will probably go along to that.

Thinking of joining the Lancashire FHG, as that's the area, will probably have to go and spend time sometime up there researching in record office, all gets a bit tricky before 1800.

Think I'll come to your group, sounds good

I am looking forward to this year's prize giving to share the stage with my grandson for the first time.
Well done to you both - that prize giving pic will be one to be proud of.

                • Shattered and in need of a glass of white. Both my boys are doing a DofE weekend trek. Packing their bags have been a marathon! They have unpacked, re packed, weighed it, tested the wAterproof covers, run up and down the stairs with them on and really got on my nerves...even so, I'm praying for good weather, and warm nights and I really hope they don't get lost!

                          Hazel,

If he manages to keep up this form - I'll need to start a photo album - the two younger ones are already asking him to teach them how to play - that is how they learned the computer, the kindle and the Xbox - they copy everything he does and I have photos of them when I won the Championship the year each one was born and they find the last one of all three which sits on my bedside table fascinating.

What a brilliant pic, Shen - love it!

As the youngest of three, I relate to learning from older siblings. My sis was at uni by the time I hit high school, so I don't remember much of growing up with her (although we are close now), but I strived to emulate my big brother in all that he got up as I grew up, and I still remember the time that he conceded that I whopped him at arcade games (these are the days before xbox etc.).

We've always been rather competitive (*ahem* understatement), so he was delighted when I took up running a couple of years ago. He's always been a runner, and is rangy too, so will always be a disproportionately better runner than me; but he's proud of his little sis aiming for and achieving goals, and I'm lucky that I can have no better cheerleader.
