while browsing the Wilkinson website today found this information on some garlic bulbs. Not sure about anyone else but can't say washable garlic is much use to me!

after a quick look, seems some wash and some don't, I don't. I just remove any loose leaves and muck, tie together and then hang up in my dry frost free shed.
Found this you tube clip showing a young lady cleaning hers in the living room. She cuts the tops off hers but otherwise she does what I do. Well there is a difference. I do mine in the shed. Otherwise it wouldn't be the garlic getting its head cut orf

Cheers BB ermhh yes, it says NA which I assume means not applicable? .
I can see that garlic looks better if the skins are beautifully white on the supermarket shelf and the commercial growers may well get a better price for their garlic if they are presented clean. Indeed they may not be able to sell the garlic if it isn't clean.
However, taking this back to the kitchen garden. This year, I will have a baker's dozen planted. They are presently in pots and will be haardened off ready to plant out in the next few weeks. I won't be selling mine when I harvest them. I will give them a rough clean up removing muck, debris and any loose leaves so that they can dry nicely when hung up (funny expression that cos when hung up, things hand down ) and will have a better chance of keeping without any rotting in storage.
