Ok so I'm nearing a big age milestone, I won't say which!!, and the other half asked me what I'd like to do for it. I said no parties I don't do big family gathering, my idea of hell not heaven....

I'm not sure we are quite on the same wavelength however when I said I'd like to go away somewhere for a break, I suggested Llwyn Helyg (luxury B&B), and the other half was thinking gwdy hw (self catering Treehouse!!).

Now I like the look of the latter, but not for a comfortable night sleep!!

So I'm asking for your suggestions as I'm not really coming up with something that really grabs me.
I do have come criteria to consider 1, It needs to be either part of or near a really good restaurant, I want a cracking evening meal one that's lip smacking. 2, I like the countryside rather than city centres somewhere where you can go for a nice walk. 3, It needs to have generous beds, I have a super king size at home so anything less than a king would seem like a poor relative!!

So if you know of anything within a couple of hours of Wales, your ideas and thoughts would be much appreciated. It could be a great Inn, a vineyard with rooms, a country house, a top banana B&B, an unusual self catering folly near a good restaurant, or something I've yet to consider I'm really open to suggestions.

    Muchas Gracias peeps.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

I have Dorothy, I've spent probably 3-4 hours every night this week, and G4 is absolutely right I am a fussy bugga. The thing is I've not had much time off in the last year as I've been setting up a new business, so I thought it would be nice to treat myself and the OH who's birthday is the day after mine with something special.

I find tripadvisor can be a very harsh critic of somewhere slightly more expensive but very generous of somewhere much cheaper. I suppose when we part with hard earned cash we expect a lot from it, and a bit like the tv programme 'come dine with me' people can be overly critical of very minor details. I saw one the other day which was a vineyard in west wales that had a very harsh review 2 out of 5 because the hotel and staff and food were lovely but they charged them £6 for a glass of wine!!

I guess I also like other peoples recommendations too as sometimes we know somewhere near us that is really great but is either new or under new management which possibly wouldn't show up highly on tripadvisor if at all. I'm not asking anyone to do the research for me, believe me I prepared to put in the leg work, but my search area is vast and I have no set desire to go to a specific locality. I'm prepared to travel a couple of hours from South Wales and go anywhere.

OH and I have always liked the hand picked hotels range as they tend to be pretty consistantly good, but I'm sure there are a few boutique independents about which would warrant consideration that I simply don't know of, I don't travel much out of Wales you see so whatever is East of me could just aswell be like a vast wasteland.

I totally understand if you don't want to recommend somewhere because you can't vouch for it personally, but I'm sure we all know of somewhere a bit special near us.

Its had a michelin star for quite a few years I believe. I've also looked at the crown at whitebrook which lost its star after it closed last october, but the new management seem to have got it back on track and I'm sure they'll get the star back in due course.

The food doesn't have to be michelin star quality mind, I'm happy with really good quality home cooked food like alldiggings recommendation. For me if they enjoy what they do it will show through in what they produce.
