  • Burns Night....

    Anyone celebrating tonight???

we are defrosting our Haggis looking forward to out own tatties, but sadly have no neeps.
If I have time I'll nip out to see if there any in the supermarket...but they are looked on as animal fodder here

Glad to say we have a couple or so wee drams to accompany it!

This year I may serve it with a small amount of stewed apple- the locals always serve apple with black pudding and they go together really well...I'm sure it will be yummy with the haggis too!

now then...what do you suggest for pud please?...

You could always try the most Scottish of desserts, a can of lager...

I've never made cranachan....looks easy enough- I can nick some of the UKs value oats we have for the chooks( can't find porridge oats here!) and we have some of our own rasps in the freezer!

Yey....Looks like I can make that!

Hmm....shortbread?.....could have a bash at making some

Shortbread's easy, Nicos - just goggle Aggie Mckenzie's ( of how clean is your house fame) family recipe.

Happy Burns Night to all you Scots (and part-Scots - my Mother was a Mc!) I may have a wee dram with ye, but I'll no be partakin' of the Haggis. a) we don't have one, and b) I like it, but my digestive system objects.

              Happy Burns night, anyway!

I'm like that with smoked fish .

Anyway to get back on topic, Yes we will be having the haggis, neeps and tatties tonight and yes, neeps are animal fodder also but that doesn't matter. Go see a local farmer and smile sweetly Nicos .

I've never been one for boozing with haggis even although my dad was employed making the stuff.

right...no neeps, so I'll be making Rumbledethumps ( colcannon) to have with it instead as we do have our own cabbage and spuds!

What a name for something to eat!!!!

I was going to cook traditional Burns meal, got the neeps and tatties, but sadly no Haggis to be purchased locally. (Must have all flown away). So going out for curry instead, don't think 'a wee dram' will accompany it v well tho.

2 very large, fat and healthy looking foxes, wandering across the Plots this afternoon, tried to photograph them, but they just kind of walked off, watching me all the time, bit spooky, no one else was there.
