It's now front page news and the politicians are turning up, now that it's affecting wealthy home-owners along the Thames.

The news today says that flooding is going to be happening for at least the next 4 months, the water table is that high, and people forced out of their homes can expect to be homeless for at least 6 months

A lot pf people said, at the start, that something would be done 'sharpish' if London and surrounding was at risk. They were called cynical, too.

Yes, I know it is 'the price we pay' for living in a rural area, but for some poor souls the price has been far too much.

Be cynical, if you must - but there are an awful lot more people living alongside the Thames, to be affected when that floods - not all of them bankers.

I have friends and family living in Staines and they are certainly not wealthy........ they count as poor souls as well IMO

It may sound flippant but I blame the weather. In a normal(or what used to be normal)winter, the storms would deposit snow which would melt over a long period and the waterways could broadly cope with that. This winter however, winter has forgotten to arrive, un;like the winter storms which instead of depositing snow, have dumped huge amounts of water which the waterways just can't cope with.

If this was India or Bangladesh(that's maybe India as well is it?) our government would be throwing money at them so it is only right that should happen here.

However, some poor souls 15 miles or so from here have been flooded out several times over the past few years and have not had any help. With that in mind, I'm reserving judgement

Oh c'mon! I live on the Thames. I am not wealthy. There are a hell of a lot of people like me who have been flooded out both up and downriver from where I am. The Thames is a long river, and has dense populations along it.

I wouldn't consider comparing one set of floods with another. If you look at the coverage, pretty much everyone has the same complaint of nothing being done. We're only just getting the specialist drainage pumps from Holland for the levels. I feel really awful for anyone who is flooded, whether they are a farmer on acres, or my friend's elderly aunty and uncle who are now homeless in Marlow.

It's already affecting the farmers crop prices for this year. They've been on the local news saying that food prices will be going up this year because their fields are ruined. So, we'd all best get growing as much as we can so our pockets don't suffer too much

We all suffer the consequences of the flooding - whether our homes are flooded or not.
As Ancee says, food prices will go up, house insurance will go up, money spent on addressing the flood problems will not be available to spend on other services.
My heart goes out to everyone who has been directly affected by the flooding, wherever they live and however poor or wealthy they are perceived to be.

The govenment said on tv,that money will be available,no matter what cost,so in theary,should not effect the insurances,but they always have an excuse/answer,to much chat,and not quick to act,feel so sad for those affected,

Good to see on the dreaded FB that many Young Farmers' Groups, including our own local organisation, is sending provisions down to the West Country for their poor livestock, too.

I'm just waiting to see the terms & conditions for this 'Money No Object' thing that Call-Me-Dave has announced.

You probably can get some kind of compensation, if you fill in a 1000 page form and produce 101 different pieces of evidence/proof. That's if you can find out exactly where to get the form....
