I was so pleased to hear about the Sikh Khalsa organisation dashing down from outer west London to give any help they could in Somerset - and now they may be needed a bit closer to home as the Thames floods. This is affecting quite a few communities near me - only a few miles away. The canal at the top of the road is very full, and the river at the bottom is pretty full as well. Today's rain had half the road flooded and my front garden a bit under water. One of my friends lives on an island on the Thames - it has flooded before so I am sure she is flooded again.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I feel really sorry for all those poeple who have been affected by the flooding and would not wish it on anyone.

It is perhaps unfortunate that DC starts talking of giving grants to flood affected people just as the Thames floods whilst those in the Somerset levels had to wait weeks to get help.

Living on a floodplain and wondering why you've been flooded is like living on a volcano and thinking "What's that red stuff?"
"...Very dark, is the other side, very dark."

My comment regarding "we cant have the bankers getting wet feet" may have been misunderstood. Of course the vast majority of people in the Thames flooding area are just very normal people like you and I, my heart goes out to them. But also in these areas live the Bankers, Judges, politicians and other members of the so called establishment. It seems to me that is is no coincidence that we have seen politicians (of all parties) running round making pledges since these areas are threatened yet where the summerset floods were concerned they appeared to be doing little.
As for the unlimited funds pledge I think its a pledge to do whatever it takes in the form of emergency measure, ie: the army, feedstuffs for hungry animals etc. Not a pledge to hand out cash to individuals who are most likely insured.

My brother and sister in law, don't live on a flood plain, the lower floor of their house has been flooded and is a total write off, they have had to dig up the concrete floor in another of their lower rooms and bought and installed a pump, to try and get rid of some of the water, everything is ruined, this has never happened in the 20 years they have lived there.

So for those of us who have not been flooded, should think ourselves very lucky indeed.

                        They live in Berkshire.

Pity all this excess water can't be stored somehow.
When the next hosepipe ban is put into force we'll all be complaining.

You know...I've not checked!...but it's not pouring out of the top!
Might be a good time to measure it as I imagine it's as full as it's ever going to get?
