i'm afraid we don't do valentines day, too flaming commercial and total rip-off in my opinion. We will have a nice bottle of vino, but we have a nice bottle every friday.

Have to say i'd probably have a heart attack if MrW did some romantic gesture! Romance is just not his thing, he'llprobably fall asleep by 8.30!

Nothing. I'm not going to give in to commercial pressure... (my view of it).

I do Valentines Day...always have, but not in the commercial way.

          Breakfast in bed.
a day together just spending quality time.
Nice food and wine, warm fire and candles.

I'm happy to do a special meal with other peeps too- last year we cooked for 8...and it was still much cheaper than just the two of us going out for a meal !

I am fortunate now we are both retired we spend lots of quality time together, every day in fact.

I don't cards but SWMBO loves her cut flowers and I like to please SWMBO maybe that's why this is our 43rd year together.

No presents in our house either 😒 We met in 1976 and I duly bought him a Valentines card, but held on just to make sure I got one from him. Well I never did .... So he never did. Still got the original one in a cupboard some 38 years later, you never know lol

                    1) I am single
                    2) I am quite happy to be single
                    3) If I was not single, I would still not be drawn in by the artificial commercialised gibberish designed to part you with your hard earned funds in this little high street spending lull between Christmas and Easter
                    4) If I discovered I was with someone who got upset because I didn't compy with all that synthetic social conformity nonsense, I suspect I would become single again very quickly

Why treat your partner different on the 14th to the 13th or 15th? It's all just nonsense to scam money out of you, and get those taxes flowing. As for cut flowers, originally gifted to mask odours of BO, sickness and death, I've never bought them for anyone in my life. I don't feel comfortable with the underlying message of "Here you go, I got you these cos you stink"

I just think it's a nice idea to be able to focus on the people you love...not just a 'specific other half'.
Hence my mom, children and friends have always been invited to our Valentine supper.
Mind you- I'm always up for an excuse to make and eat something a bit extra special as we hardly ever go out anywhere to eat!!!

                        Cynical lot, aren't we!?

Anyway, ditto here. AIC, I was single for a long time, and loved it (coz I'm a selfish c*w). When we first met, we'd do the soppy card/chocs/tat thing, but by about year three, neither of us could see the point. We got married a couple of years after that, and have been together about twenty-two years now, so I guess it just works. It's day to day that counts, after all.

I made a couple of cards years ago and they'll be coming out of the drawer tomorrow as usual just in case our grandkids call around and ask if we got each other cards.

I've just noticed that the card I made him last year is still on the shelf

Earlier I went over to look at the Valentine's flowers in L!dl. The BH comes out with 'You don't need flowers' in quite a grumpy voice. He got some filthy looks from about a dozen people at the flower stand" And he keeps trying to tell me he's a romantic

It's our wedding anniversary next week - 31 years.

It's my buffday as well so my better half always takes the day off and we spend it together. I developed the bad habit of getting her a couple of dozen red roses from T***O. At £5 a dozen, they are a steal and she really loves them although she always says a dozen would be fine. I don't want her to think I'm a skinflint either so she will be getting her usual number. I've also got her a box of the Lindt dark chocolates which she loves (and shares ) and a wee red heart which says I love you to bits. That was said at a special time for us and neither of us have forgotten so when I saw it, well what's another couple of quid.

Is it over commercialised? of course it is but you can't put a price on what we've got.
