My husband routinely forgets birthdays but usually (but not always) manages to remember a card for me on Valentines day simply because the supermarkets have them displayed so prominantly.

Yesterday we were in Sains****s. He slunk off to the newspaper stand and also picked a card up which he didn't want me to see so he put it in his pocket!!!!!

It was only when he realised he was getting funny looks from other shoppers that he realised he looked like a shoplifter.........and put it under his newspaper in the basket.

His idea was that when we got to the cashout he would send me to get cups of tea in the cafe while he queued and paid.

Unfortunately for his plans he realised then that he didn't have any money on him. At this point he told me about his abortive romantic gesture.

After over twenty years together I'm still waiting for the trip to Paris or hearts and flowers but I still love him and know he loves me.

Much more useful that a pair of rugby books Jules!
Now you just need to think of something artistic to do with it!

I wondered why he'd bought it. When I looked confused he offered, by way of explanation, that it was so that I could manage to do a job in the attic easily. This would be the job that I asked him to do before the family descended at Christmas. So I have handed him his new toy and told him what to do with it. He knows the attic freaks me out....

Well, I'm cooking dinner as usual this evening.

Tomorrow we are going to the National Portrait Gallery,to see special photography exhibition, followed (hopefully ) by lunch, nothing really to do with Valentines a Day, just coincidence, and a treat for both.

That reminds me of my 30th birthday present from the now OH! After being together for many moons and he still hadn't popped the Q I was very excited to see my birthday parcels wrapped up. One big box and a very small box (which was obviously a ring box!! ) He got me to open the big box first, just what I always wanted (not!) a toaster. Then here's comes the proposal, a mini pot of jam that he had free while eating his breakfast at the cafe!!! I was so MAD....

I used to play games like that at Christmad until SWMBO nearly threw away a pair rubber gloves with an eternity ring inside. I had a dicky fit.

Back to today, a little bonus for me I arrive home with large bunch of flowers the lady had .................. forgotten guess who's getting steak with all the trimmings for tea.
