Staff at work asked what I had been given for Valentine's Day. I said "A beautiful hand made card covered in hearts and flowers, a huge bunch of deep red roses in cellophane embellished with hearts, a large heart-shaped home made cake iced with 'I LOVE YOU', a massive box of Thornton's continental heart-shaped chocolates, a basket of passion fruit, a selection of lingerie from Victoria Secrets, a rose tree called 'Everlasting Love' (Love Affair, had to get that in), a planned 3-course candlelit dinner, a bath run for me with candles illuminating the bathroom and the silver ice-bucket containing vintage champagne, a very cute teddy bear wearing a see through negligee in my size on a bed strewn with rose petals".

They gazed open mouthed at me until I said

    You've guessed it

To all the negatives and the cynics, I've had the lovelies of days with the love of my life who took the day off work to spend it with me on my bufffday. We had a wee outing to a garden centre about 15 miles away (Banchory) and had a tasty bacon and brie panini and a cuppa for lunch in the restaurant there and we've had the simplest of nice meals- Markies £20 meal deal for dinner. Can't bottle it and can't buy it can ya .

I left for work this morning and herself was still in bed.... So I left a nice card and bunch of lilies on the kitchen worktop this morning... Nice surprise for her when she arrived downstairs with the younger 2....

So arrived home this evening from work to a homemade gift from my four year old... And then Camembert starter followed by my favorite... Steak with mushroom, onions, beans from the freezer and especially herself's home made mix of blue cheese with walnuts..
              Delish..
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

I don't usually do the flowers and chocolate thing I usually take my wife out somewhere nice to create a memory that will last forever!

This year.... Slightly different roses and chocolates delivered yesterday as I had a hospital appointment today with the big IOU inside the card for when I can walk

I'm cynical about Valentine's day not about 'love'. My husband and I can and do - go out, have a lovely day/evening meal whenever the hell we want, but I fail to see the romance in doing it just because the calendar and the shops say we must. That's not negative or cynical, it's being real and appreciating each other all year round not just on the 14th of February.

Obviously most of us like to celebrate special occasions like anniversaries or birthdays, but that's personal to you and those close to you and has nothing to do with a publically announced day where couples are fleeced and singletons made to feel inadequate.

But like I said, each to their own, I just personally find it all a bit wrong, but it doesn't mean I love my husband any less.
