In my case because Mrs BB retires on the 14th & has a "significant" birthday on the 15th & as we ALL know ... a happy wife means a happy life

No comment. Well all right then, we're in our 42nd year and I have never had a Valentine card from Himself. Am I bovvered? No, but I do think it's lovely when I see others behaving romantically. My children all celebrate Valentine's Day with their partners

          My valentines present.

My other half has bought me a new waterproof coat as I discovered the other day that my so called waterproof coat wasn't in fact it was hardly shower proof.
I was frozen when I got home with the kids. They were fine and thought it was very funny for me to have water running out of my coat arms and my jumper was as wet as the outside of the coat. Took me ages to warm back up.

Can't stand the day at all, I know OH loves me and I love him. We can show it when we want and likewise will spoil each other and spend time together on a day that suits us not when the ad man tells us to which has got to be the most unromantic thing ever.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

In previous years I have made a special meal, I did Rabbit once, confit the legs in Goose fat for 3 hours and cooked the loin hot and fast . . . was very nice, another year I did a Lobster Pithivier, Rick Stein recipe, was very involved and very nice, I've also done a Guinea Fowl with Guinea Fowl samosas

Tomorrow I might do some Quail Scotch eggs . . . I also bought a card and some superb French chocolates by Michel Cluizel.

Looks like there's been some heart transplants round this neck of the woods.

They have been replaced with 'swinging bricks'

I will spend a few bob on some flowers and bring a smile to my ladies face. Never has a few bob been so well spent

Not this year VC. Tis the only time I have sent her a Valentines card that she really liked.

But I like to ring the changes its all to easy to get boring so flowers this year. Next year God willing who knows, keep em guessing.

Our first year together I said it was a pointless day and he banged on about romance and being first valentines day together. I gave in got him card and presents, made him breakfast...and he forgot! He then rushed to supermarket and got me caramel chocolates which I hate! It's now tradition that he goes on the morning and gets me the rubbish left on the shelves! We always do something nice this time of year anyway as his birthday is on the 16th

What my wife and I prefer to do is go on holiday on our wedding anniversary taking it in turn to choose a surprise destination, seem more relevant to use to some random day.

Oh gosh....I just found out this!...

The Feast of Lupercalia, was a pagan festival of love.
On these occasions, the names of young women were placed in a box, from which they were drawn by the men as chance directed.
In 496 AD, Pope Gelasius decided to put an end to the Feast of Lupercalia, and he declared that February 14 be celebrated as St Valentine's Day.

                            Hmmm...* raises eyebrow!

So it's been around a fair while then!

                              Vile. Tacky. Nasty.
I used to make Himself a card and sometimes we'd go out for a meal the day after in protest because it was cheaper. One year we went out with friends and acted like kids, watching some of the other couples sitting looking bored and fed up with each other - so romantic

We agreed not to do cards anymore, a few years back (my idea); like others have said what's romantic about being romantic because someone tells you to be? My only acknowledgment will be my now traditional Faceache protest pic - this year it's a pic of Grumpy cat - Valentine's Day - Just Say No.

Each to their own though - whatever floats your dingy.
