March borrows a few days from April then repays them during April.

That is, a few 'pet' days of warm weather in March will be balanced by a few cold, blustery days in April.

To get rid of warts, rub the wart with an elder twig and bury the twig, when the twig has rotted the wart will have gone.!

Twin calves of mixed sex, results in the female calf being infertile, the old timers called this a WillJill calf.

Playing old max bygraves records in the hen house will get rid of red mites.

I'd have thought it would get rid of the hens too...
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

              Firewood poem

Beechwood fires are bright and clear
If the logs are kept a year,
              Chestnut's only good they say,
If for logs 'tis laid away.
Make a fire of Elder tree,
              Death within your house will be;
But ash new or ash old,
Is fit for a queen with crown of gold

Birch and fir logs burn too fast
Blaze up bright and do not last,
it is by the Irish said
              Hawthorn bakes the sweetest bread.
Elm wood burns like churchyard mould,
E'en the very flames are cold
But ash green or ash brown
Is fit for a queen with golden crown

              Poplar gives a bitter smoke,
Fills your eyes and makes you choke,
Apple wood will scent your room
Pear wood smells like flowers in bloom
Oaken logs, if dry and old
              keep away the winter's cold
But ash wet or ash dry
a king shall warm his slippers by.

                    A dog, a wife, a walnut tree,
The more you beat them, the better they be.

Apparently it helps with fruit set on the walnuts.

Beating a tree might make you look a bit Basil Fawlty! Wonder how it helps the fruit?

                      As for the other two...

Maybe you have to get your wife to beat the tree with a dog ....
