Some lovely pictures on the TV this morning of the Northern Lights - I didn't even know there was a chance we would see it. Usually someone gives us the heads up on here.

I am well jealous if all our Northern Grapes, have always wanted to see the Northern lights, no chance here in London, smog covers everything

Some fantastic pictures on the news. I've seen them once, many many years ago when I was about 9 or 10. I remember my Dad waking me up and taking me to look out of the back bedroom window - I've never forgotten it.

Tonight's London Evening Standard had a picture of the lights taken from Essex last night, so Hertfordshire certainly sounds possible!

Yes, Martin, I heard about it on the R2 news this afternoon. They say it was visible from this area, but I didn't know, so didn't poke my head out. I have seen it before, and it's amazing!

There is one advantage of getting older ie getting up during the night. The Velux window in the bathroom faces north and the Northern Lights were full on last night. I have seen them before but yesterday's seemed to be better. I even opened the velux (-4 outside) to try to hear them - sometimes they have a sound but I have not heard it yet.
