  • Does anyone have a stairlift?

I need to get a stairlift for my mum as she really struggles to get upstairs, and has finally conceded that she would find it easier with one. Does anyone have any advice, recommendations, pros and cons?
My instinct is to go with the name I've heard of the most and longest, Sta***ah, but interested to hear of other folks choices, recommendations etc.
    Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
    Endless wonder.

My in - laws, had one installed last Autumn, Stannah, purpose built, they live in very old house in Cotswolds, they were very pleased with installation, theirs had to be made abroad. Check the follow up, and service agreement, cos theirs went wrong and this wasn't quite as good as it should have been, (considering the original cost) all ok now.

We have one. Bought it used from a local independent company for 800 quid a couple of years ago.
They come every year and service it (70 quid) and last year they took it out and stored it while we had some work done then re fitted it.
Get several quotes, (local and national) before signing up with some of the big boys.

Could be worth checking with your local trading standards to make sure any company you pick doesn't have a bad rep.

My elderly neighbour had one for her husband. In was the brand you mentioned, only thing I can say was the firm bought it back when it was no longer needed.

I would contact your local council, social service provider, I would expect there to be local companies which offer assistance, and a cost below the big ones.

In a company I worked for a few years ago we were approached by a stairlift company to create a referral system. We were supposed to refer consumers to this company and they would pay us 25% commission of the order value for passing on a leaflet. This never sat well with me, it seemed completely immoral so I never referred them, pm me and I'll give you their name.

It does go to show you how much price flexibility you have with these firms.
