Is it Scaffolders Debris netting? If so, sadly, not fine enough to keep carrot fly out. need the (expensive) Enviromesh, or equivalent, for a 100% safe solution to those blighters, and I don't think a "wall" is enough so mine has a "roof" as well.

It is a myth that carrot fly only flies under 18". I have tried a fence but they still got in! Now I go for complete coverage.

Yes is scaffold netting, and its main purpose is to keep next doors stinking cat from doing its business there.

I suspected it would not be fine enough to keep the carrot fly out. But last year I grew carrots with no pest problems whatsoever.

I will just keep my fingers crossed for this year!

As said, you need a "roof" for carrot fly.

Even if it can't fly above knee height, any gust of wind can blow them up and over the walls of the netting

I have loads of that lightweight fleece stuff. Perhaps I will throw that directly over the carrot leaves at a later date?

I will deffo be laying some horticultural fleece directly over them then...

Yes you are right as they belong to the same family Umbelliferae.
Last time I sowed carrots I had completely failed to notice all the pretty cow parsley in the hedge next to it!big problem with carrot fly here and have to completely cover with environmesh and dig the sides of it under soil. Not a sign of it the first year.
